Thanks Patricia! Any other input from others?

We just put Allure Plank Vinyl flooring in our main living area and kitchen and so far I'm loving it. Because it's thin, your floor needs to be pretty smooth underneath even though it's floating. We cut costs on the flooring but, except for a few places where we didn't have the underfloor even enough, it looks great. We have friends who have had the vinyl planks for more than a year and took their positive recommendations and have no regrets.

Where these planks you all used, glue-down or floating planks that click together?

@haayer: They have a glue strip along one edge so they are connected to each other but not down to the floor. We had them installed and, of course, the installer made it look easy but I do think they'd be a great DIY project for someone who a.) doesn't have bad knees and b.) isn't doing 1400 sf of floors. :)

We used the Traffic Master Allure vinyl plank in our basement. We went with the snap together one so we didn't have to worry about the glue edges coming apart, which some of the reviews said had happened. It was more expensive but, if it ever gets wet enough that we have to take it up to dry the floors it will snap back together. Plus, it's 100% waterproof.

Not best pics but might help. The glue strip is just visible in the photo with the window in the background. We have found that the dog's claws will leave marks but he's a 130 pound Bullmastiff under the age of two so there's not a lot that would withstand his playing. We just decided he's worth it and to accept imperfection.
