Accessories are the best way of adding personality into the space. You could also consider painting the wall a bold color in order to add flare into the room.

I would add more photos or accessories on the mantle. A great way to do this is layering photos, mirrors, empty picture frames, and candle sticks. I've attached some photos of decorated mantles. You could also look into having a spot light on the painting? This could make the mantle/wall look more grand at night.
