You know that if you invest in new counter to go with the island that you'll then want to get a new backsplash and new hardware? Probably a new cooktop, too. If you get a new cooktop, a new micro is in order. What's the fridge look like? Love your floors? You are opening a can of worms, right?

If you are thinking of changing the countertop maybe invest in a new backsplash as well. The wood is a great idea, although I am not sure about the wear and tear of the wood with the stove right next to it. I think a darker countertop would be nice since everything is so light
