Kitchen backsplash

Trying to decide on a kitchen backsplash. Trying to do something a bit different but don't want it to be too busy. Also, don't want to get tired of it either as it is not something I want to replace in 5 years. Many options I've seen are travertine 4x4 tiles on a diagonal possibly interspersed with a colored tile to spruce it up a bit. I have cherry cabinets, santa cecelia granite and a light tile floor. I've attached several pictures; one of the cabinet and counter near the oven, one of the counter, one of the kitchen floor and one of the sink as I have granite behind the sink.

I love the glass. Very clean looking and not busy or too much color with the granite. Good job.

Travertine looks rustic and old and glossy ceramic or glass look contemporary. I'd go with ceramic or glass given the elegant cabinets and appliances. The granite on the wall will interfere with anything unless you can remove it safely. Avoid sprucing with accent tiles, they tend to muddy the waters and can look off considering outlets and stuff you leave on the counter all the time.

I agree with the above poster. I have New Venetian Gold, which is very similar to yours. My thoughts are the granite has enough movement in it that a plain tile looks better. It took me over a year to finally decide what I wanted, and some days I still question if I made the right decision, LOL! I posted a picture of what I was considering and the the final result. Thanks for the comments, I like what you did with the glass tile. What is the name and color of the tile? To the original comment about removing the granite behind the sink, the "up and over" granite behind the sink will stay in place. If I didn't do it, the there would have been a very small break between the pass through granite and the granite piece which goes up the wall from the counter. It was suggested that when I did a backsplash, I would have had to fill that space using the same tile as the backsplash and it might not look very good so I did the "up and over".

I added two more pictures from my kitchen with a better view of how the "up and over" granite looks. I also attached a picture a friend of mine sent me which I personally like but the kitchen is bigger. Lastly, I attached a picture of one tile I am considering.

Denise, the tile is by Orleans and is a 2x4 subway glass tile. Sand is the color. Funny thing is, by the time I decided what I wanted, Lowes was in the process of discontinuing the tile. I sent my husband to one store an hour and a half away for almost 200 tiles, and then I hit about eight local Lowes over the course of 5 hours on a Saturday morning. But pretty certain you can also get them online.

Thanks Julie. I should be able to find something similar that is neutral at one of the local tile stores. My only concern is that neutral subway tile with no design at all will be bland - not much different than the current off white paint color. I know that whatever I do, it cannot be busy as it will clash with santa cecelia. Any thoughts on a wall pInt color? My kitchen is an inside kitchen, no windows. I will need to paint above the backsplash as well as the other walls. Thanks

The glass subway tile looks great. Resist the idea of add accents or stripes, etc especially if you don't want to be tired of it in 5 years. Bling it up with items on the counters, you can change out when you want a different look. Enjoy your beautiful kitchen!
