how far under table top does this retract?

I have tried these before--but they require drilling into the underside of the table or desk where they are mounted and usually need more space than a decent sized table has at the middle. What would YOU mount this on? How would you make it fir into the design of an office with a beautiful wood desk? Don't you have vendor that sells such a contraption for less than half this amount? I'd dearly love to see a practical beautiful application of this tray!

Keyboard Trays like this one can be ordered with tracks (the metal strip that mounts to the underside of the desk) in various lengths. You want the track to be as long as possible so you have the flexibility to store the tray out of sight when not in use.

Therein lies the problem: A table with a deep, unreinforced center area is not particularly stable, but the reinforcement on a stable table gets in the way of mounting a long track. Maybe I need advice on the right table?

Most good quality tables now have recessed reinforcement stabilizers.

Sure! Size, aesthetic, and usability requirements? (i.e. file storage, back/sides on the desk)

room is small, existing desk is maybe 6' x 4' -- don't want desktop computer on top of that. need to be able to elevate screen, adjust keyboard and slide it out of sight entirely, but still prop up a book and make handwritten (right handed) notes while working at computer. table should be small, i guess. At least not very deep. would rather have it at an angle to desk than directly behind. Electical outlets not convenient need to know about extensions and power strips, set-up has to allow productivity would prefer not be facing wall. desk has adequate immediate storage (file drawers, etc) I hate industrial ugly but cannot afford to match desk, so form must follow function I guess. thanks for any suggestion

Hello do u have to drill this in or is it adhesive, I am looking to buy a glass desk soon and will need a keyboard tray :/
