I think it's fine. In a finished kitchen these details seem to blend together even if different. If you do want to consider matching finishes, it's probably more impactful to have same finish on cabinet hardware and plumbing. Hope that helps and good luck with your project. Charmean Neithart

it's fine to mix but I always prefer nickel over chrome because it has a warmer feeling to it...not so cold like chrome

I have no problem with the mixed look. I mixed stainless, antique pewter and satin nickel in my house. I wanted slightly darker knobs-antique pewter (since my cabinets are walnut), stainless appliances and sink, and lighter - satin nickel - light fixtures (for light visual weight) and it turned out beautifully.

Not a problem since they are all in the neutral-gray family.

Yes, I agree...no problem to mix those finishes and nicer to have some variety than all matchy-matchy. I have a white kitchen with chrome pulls and my light fixtures even have a tarnished brass (comes off blackened)...was worried at first, but all looks great and nice to have a different element.

i have black granite sink, and just changed cab pulls to black, have stainless aplliances - some black on stove and MW- it looks great!

I too prefer the nickel finish but truly all these blend well and can be accentuated with more
accessories in same and in glass !

The chrome adds bling when done with purpose! Great look to mix, shows style! Especially when the chrome is in more unexpected pieces.

I think you have less chance of things looking dated in the future if you mix finishes and metals. Think of the '80s when everyone wanted the gold plumbing fixtures...20-30 years later, everyone is pulling those out, because the metal color and finish dates the room. With a mix of metals, it looks as though the room is progressing, and doesn't tie it all to one decade. Another advantage is if you get tire of the look of one finish, you don't have to change everything to get rid of it.

It all depends on the message you wish to convey. From a Feng Shui standpoint, the bright, clean and simple lines of the chrome lighting fixtures in addition to stainless appliances add significant speed to the chi (energy) of the room. We just finished a kitchen remodel project and did what you are proposing....chrome lighting, satin nickle hardware & faucets, and stainless appliances. I was reluctant about the chrome lighting, but it looks great. Ours is a small chandelier in the dining are that has some crystals. We carried that look into the work area by adding crystal pulls & knobs to two stand alone pieces, the peninsula & small appliance armoire. I love it!

I agree that mixing adds interest to the room. Coordinating rather than a too matched look. I redid my kitchen with stainless appliances, limestone floor, fruitwood cabinets, black stone counters, and matte black knobs. I love it.
Also redid master bath with combo of oil rubbed bronze and chrome that turned out better than I expected.

I think mixing finishes are fine when it comes to the accent part of the kitchen. I think you can even be more extreme. Look at this kitchen I did that had all cool finish plumbing and appliances and I added oil rub bronze as the accent

We work with customers almost daily who assume they have to use brushed nickel faucets only because they are using stainless steel appliances. In our showroom we specifically chose to install polished chrome faucets with our latest display of stainless steel sinks just so our customers can see that coordinating finishes is always appropriate rather than matching every finish. They always seem surprised...and relieved.

I too had the same dilemma, even the same exact sink fixture as pictured. Stainless double ovens, cooktop, sinks & microwave with the chrome faucet. I used black soapstone counters, updated with chrome pulls on all the cabinets, hidden rope light LED's under the cabinets and installed 3 chrome track lighting elements to make the kitchen (2) & dining room (1) pop. I placed the chrome lighting over the dining room to connect it to the kitchen...thrilled with my results!

Chrome no problem but the overall effect is rather cold. Love the table and chairs, why not use a blown glass fixture in a varied green, mix it up.

Looks great and works wonderfully together - yet still just different enough from each other to be interesting. No problem.

I understand mixed finishes...but what about polished chrome cabinet hardware with polished nickel pendant lights? Are they just similar enough to look like a mistake???

I don't believe anyone think they were a mistake.

Since they are similar finishes, like many have pointed out, it seems like it would be fine to mix them. They would be similar in hue, but just different enough in texture and shine to add to the visual interest, IMO.
