I think you need to hang something large and dramatic above your bed in that space. How about a small plane in chrome or some dramatic art installation but enough that you can see through to the city lights at night if you wish? You could afford to go super glam with more velvet drapes added around the columns and in the room. Plus small ottomans or chairs in front of your bed and pendant lights that drop down by either side of much more dramatic night stands...
