Put some color on the wall (there's not much wall to cover). That would end the beige look of it all. A seafoam or teal would look nice.

I agree about adding wall color. Chap gave some good samples. And yes to the white counter top!

I would get rid of the shower curtain and opt for a glass panel in its place...this does not have to take up much space. Then go WOW with paint and accessory colour...orange or red maybe? All your colour shades and textures work so well together. I realy think a bright bold colour would work...using the same neutrals I am about to add bold turquoise to a small main bathroom.

Will it be t dark and can you wait until the trim is up? Have you considered leaving it white since all your other elements are so nice and maybe they can stand out?

I'm all for practical + design so yay on the cabinet and, honestly, I would leave the vanity top because you have boys in there. White vanity tops only look good when they are really clean and the one you have chosen will hide the blobs of toothpaste and soap crud and everything else your boys will invariably spill on it within four seconds of it being clean.

Looks good. After raising 4 boys, i would go with white counters and sink. I had light grey counters that showed the white toothpaste and navy sinks that showed everything! I have a pedestal sink in a powder room, looks good but too impractical. Even though not used much, there was no storage for toilet paper and soap. Remodel in the works.

@ boundsgreener, that's a really good point. White does tend to look over-used and even sometimes unhygienic if not cleaned often with a lot of elbow grease

Trim is going up! Several mentions of wall color - I picked the current color to lighten things up (Glidden Antique White; crown mould is painted the same) but am open to suggestions!

@ boundsgreener - that was my thought when I chose the vanity top. I have the same hesitation in using a solid white (or completely solid) shower curtain, as it is right next to the boys' toilet.

@tracy - I LOVE the idea of a glass shower door, but am trying to do this for as little $ as possible. So far, I have under $200 in the whole thing: vanity, top, faucet, tile, flooring, toilet, paint, trim...

I used a white shower curtain and it is so easy to throw in the wash with the white towels.

A 'later' addition! Looking good, the trim is a great finishing touch!

My main suggestion...for boys...I wouldn't buy white linens!
Years ago I lived with my bf & his 2 teenage sons...I ended up taking down & packing away my crisp white vintage looking shower curtain, all my cute linens & anything else I had been using. I'd found several of my tea towels on the back porch...they had become bike rags. :0(

Unless they're bookworm home bodies...boys are dirty! Get black, brown, dark colored towels, shower curtain, rugs...all of it.

I wasnt thinking fancy white but something that you can wash easily.

Having trouble bringing myself to use anything solid white, though. Would love to find a dark brown (almost black) curtain. Even better...if i could find a white curtain with a bold brown band (maybe 2' tall) along the bottom. Wheels are turning ;)

Okay but I just think that a darker color curtain will change the tone of the room. imho

Question-what are the boys favorite color?

Yeah, glass and boy goo would drive you mad, even if you did want to spend the money. I don't know where you can buy them in the States, but I have a shower curtain that is cream cotton waffle weave on the outside and then the plastic standard white on the inside and you can wash them separately (and replace the inside bit easily and cheaply). I'll have a little search for what I mean.

@armygirl - one's is red, other's blue or red...so, red it is! Bathroom was actually red before I started - and I honestly wish I'd kept the red and used a vinyl beadboard 1/2 up the wall. But what's done is done and I have taupe tile!

I love that color in your 3rd link...The pale seafoam. But it is my accent color in my living room and the color of my master bath & I am looking to do something different.

boundsgreener-I have the white one in my bathroom and got a liner that I also throw in the washing machine and it is holding up quite well after a few wash.

I did not read over all of your comments, so don't mind me if i suggest things that you have already ruled out. But always, I read this is your sons bathroom. Have you thought about maybe getting a fun graphic shower curtain that they can choose? Urban out fitters has some really cool shower curtains that your sons might like, But they might actually be to young for really caring (i don't know their age). I had shower doors with my 4 sons and it was impossible to keep clean. Replaced with white curtain with blue pinstripes, looks great. My white towels look fine. Towels don't get dirty after the kids have been in the shower.

I think what you've done so far is fabulous, and I don't think you need to change the vanity top. You didn't say what ages your boys are and that could have a bearing as to the shower curtain. Your tiles are a neutral and most any color or even a print shower curtain would work. If you sew you could always add a brown panel to the bottom of a shower curtain to tie it in.

Definitely keep your flooring ... it looks great with everything else.

If you want to paint something, do the ceiling a color (pale greyed blue or something your boys pick out) and leave your wall color as is. Or go for an orange or teal as suggested by other comments. Tie the ceiling color into wall art, curtain, or towels.

Thanks for SO many GREAT suggestions! My boys are 6 and 13 - this bath is the one guests use as well. The feel I want for this bathroom (which I should have specified!) is masculine, neutral, somewhat vintage. My initial theme, before I let it get a mind of its own...was a vintage barber shop. I had planned to use red as an accent color (very sparingly). I posted a pic of a shower curtain I had originally considered - I'll repost and would love feedback on this. My hold up is the color of the white & if it will clash. I also like the curtains in the second pic.

I have decided to keep everything as is for now, possibly adding color to the walls. I will bring home a white vanity top tomorrow to see which looks best in the room. :)

I don't know if you ever watched Stacey and Clinton but decorating is like fashion ... It doesn't have to match, it just has to "go." A bit of difference makes it not predictable. I really like the barber wall art, and red is one of my favorite colors. Go with your gut.

Red towels are so sharp ( but tend to fade). I loved mine. I would use oil rubbed bronze fixtures if you can find on sale that you can change out over time. Useful for looking ok even if guys don't hang stuff up very well is to use metal curtain tie backs in upright position. Then towels can be draped in the U shape. Often much cheaper than towel bar. Sometimes can use them as toilet paper holder that won't be too much trouble for the guys to replace with new roll.

Also, i use hooks for hanging towels instead of a towel bar. My boys (4) easily hung their towels on the hooks to dry. Before i got the hooks, they would throw their towrls on the floor; all i did was wash towels. I had to put a lock on the towel cabinet! Hooks changed everything! They could reuse their towels for a week.
