composite vs real wood siding

I was price shopping for siding recently. Ive been on the fence about what siding to buy. LP composite lap siding seems to have a lot of pluses; pressure treated, exterior grade. I was also looking at raw tounge and groove boards as well. They turned out to be roughly the same $/sqft in materials and its hard to beat the look of real wood but the stuff at Home Depot is not treated so obviously would need heavy primer coating and high quality paint to seal it. Im a little scared about termites, insects, rot, so on but I hear composite can delaminate and swell like cardboard... Advice? I live in NC (southern state, rain, snow, humid, etc)

I guess my second question is, do I sound crazy for thinking of using T&G board like lap siding?!
