The island is 4'x11'6".

In retrospect I would have designed the island to be only 11' even, or to fit under the slab of granite I chose. As it was, I had to buy an extra slab to cover the extra six inches so my seam was centered.

yes, I am building now. And my island is designed to be 12x4. I figured seaming was a must. Do you recall how much overhand you did for the seating side. 12"? I wanted some granite with movement, but with seaming...not sure how that will look. Love this kitchen.

Yes the overhang is only about 12", so the stools in the picture slide underneath. Most other stools stick out a bit further. So you may want to design with the stools you have in mind.

As far as seems go, If you are going to choose the slab you may ask if there are any are larger than 12' , sometimes sizes vary a bit, and you may get lucky and find a single slab that big.

If a seam is a given, then just choose two slabs from consecutive cuts and seam it in the center with the slabs "bookmarked". That means it will look like you just flipped the same slab over to its mirror image . This is the nicest way to do it I think.

My island is black cabs, and its that counter material/color I'm having a hard time selecting. You're picture gives me an excellent idea of how it will turn out.
