Pink, white, and black or charcoal?

I would add black, grey and white with the pink as a palette. Some of the retro baths can be updated with a wonderfully fresh palette. Definitely look at papering the walls, it is reasonable cost, you will have to smooth walls or do a wainscot in tile and paper above. Get something fresh and current. Embrace it and have fun.

by the time you remove all the tile on the walls and floors, putting a couple of new fixtures in is not going to make that much difference. I really like the pink bathrooms that Groveraxle found!

I'm thinking, since you are stuck with the design for now. I would just paint the top in a stripe, light pink, grey and white, or wall paper it. To tone down the dark pink. Then paint the window white and add some white lace curtains, unless privacy issues. Then use only light pink grey and white accessories to tone down the pink.
Then, when you get ready to renovate? I would only change out sink and toilet. And have someone repaint your tub. They have professionals who do well. But leave the tile.

If it were me, I would embrace the heck out of it (if you can't beat it, join it - right?). I wouldn't mess with any of the existing period fixtures.. mirror, towel bars, lighting, etc.. If you mess with one element, it will simply look like you couldn't afford to mess with the others.

I would start by painting the walls above the tile in gray / chalkboard paint. Find some sepia tone photographs or paintings that you love. The sepia tones will help tie the fresh coat of gray paint in with the wood window sash and sill (and door + frame, it looks like). Find a nice teak tie-in element to finish off the wood tones.

And if photography isn't your thing, or you really think the tub is an eyesore, you could find a ceiling mounted shower curtain rod, and pair it with a fun (even kitsch) shower curtain.. I personally like the flamingo idea that rainymorning suggested.
