I like the Nordic rug better than the Jute. I think it goes better with the sofa and like that it gives more color to the room.

That Anthropologie rug is beautiful. Love that one. The sisal is okay, but not very 'statement' making. Thinking it might be better to go for less heavy looking coffee table than the industrial one. Will see if I can find some other ideas for you.

I think a patterned rug will be a better choice, given the dogs. I like the darker rug (goes so nice with your horse picture) but perhaps something less rustic, using those colors (or a touch lighter) but just stripes - may work with your style of couch a bit better.[houzz=];

When you choose a coffee table, take the height of your sofa into consideration. If it's about the same height as the seat height it's the most convenient for putting down drinks. I've flanked your sofa with two floor lamps with black shades (just because I think it looks chic ;-)) and picked two round coffee tables to show you the difference with an industrial cart one. Not sure if it's similar to the one you had in mind?

I'm with Maureen, rug doesn't seem right with sofa or the new fireplace. Doesn't seem 'dressy' enough, nor does the style of industrial tables posted. But of the three, I like the round black one best.

Oh and love the sofa and the windows are fabulous so you have a great beginning!

I'm probably in the minority here, but I would love to see some color. I love your sofa and the gorgeous dining room chandelier, but I think you could benefit from color either in a rug or additional artwork. I think you can do better than the anthropologie one, to be honest.

Of all the pics I love Iconic Deco's one of the orange rug and drapes. Beautiful with all the colors in your home. I do not suggest an industrial coffee table or jute rug. Your sofa is very formal and would make those pieces look out of place.

As much as I like anne dee's suggestion for a muted toned oriental rug, I so love your Nordic rug choice. I believe that a Chesterfield goes with just about anything. From very formal to modern to eclectic... You can pair it with anything and it holds its own. Just like an oriental rug goes with just about everything. Classic designs.
I've tweaked the mock-up a little, so the rug is probably a better representation of how it would look.

I would suggest also for the chair to be replaced from something like this, black/white for more dramatic style or brown for a classic one!

The neutral tones (brown, cream) together make the space cozy. To make the space more formal but friendly for your "drool factories" I have a few recommendations. Adding a splash of color will add some life to the space. Green would be wonderful. Then you can accent with a few large plants. Another suggestion if you prefer to stay neutral would be to get a modern Moroccan rug. That will make a wonderful statement as well. Flor carpet tiles could be a perfect solution (Shown: Reoriented in Chartreuse, and Pretty Promise in LIme). Then if a tile gets soiled by the pets, it's easy to replace and tiles can be returned and recycled. I hope this helps. If you have further questions feel free to contact me. Have fun!

Is your room big enough for an 8x10 because a 5x7 will look small in the Anthropologie rug.

Maureen it's so funny that you included the photo of the 'Spice Loft' - I had saved that photo as one of my inspiration images for decorating here. Our home doesn't have the loft features of course, but I loved the color scheme/decor they used. Wish I knew where that rug was from! Love love love the way they made everything flow together there - looks cozy but open at the same time.

Carolins thanks so much for putting everything together!! I didn't even think about doing floor lamps on either side, but you're right - it looks great! I think it would give an extra 'wow' when walking through the front door. Suzani pillows are a great idea too. I was wondering what pillows to go with if I got the anthropologie rug, wanted something patterned but that didn't clash with the rug - those look lovely together! It's so nice to see what it all would look like together in my space.

Anne dee/Rhona/Mobius your creamy rugs images are exactly what's got me torn between that style and the anthropologie rug. I really love the look of the 'urban lodge' and 'roehampton gate'. I especially love how the neutrals in the urban lodge really brings out the landscape through the windows...we back onto a greenspace here too so that look is really appealing!

As much as I love the photos with color splashes, I think I'm going to try to stick with neutrals in this house. Our last place was filled with color (which I loved) but the man of the house has requested a more neutral feel here (at least for the main floor) - which I think is fitting with the small but open-concept floor-plan.

Overall, I think I'm leaning towards the anthropologie rug now. I think seeing the mock-up it looks like it gives some dimension and interest to the space, but maintains the neutral tone. I think you're right about staying away from a cart coffee table though. The hard part with that rug will be to keep everything from looking too 'lofty' in my suburban home!

I wonder if any of these coffee tables might suit the space better than the cart?

You will either like this idea or hate it. . .but how would you feel about a bamboo tattoo rug? I've heard they are great with pets.

I have that same Spice Warehouse loft saved in my ideabook :-) That rug is from Pottery Barn.

The black table I put in is from Homedecorators. It is on sale, has mixed reviews. The black Suzani pillows I found on Overstock.com.
When looking for a coffee table (I like all your choices above), keep the height of the sofa in mind. Rules are there to be broken, but it's just convenient if there isn't too much of a height difference between sofa and top of table.
