Stone Installation

How did you install the river rock into the stoop? We're considering doing this effect, except with concrete instead of tile, on our new home. We're thinking we'd pour the outsides first, let cure, then pour the middle and add the rock.

Thanks!

Hi Becky-This was done in stages on a new construction home. The stoop was poured first. Second, the porcelain tiles were laid but not adhered over the concrete stoop (it must be a porcelain tile if you're in a climate with freezing temperatures). Third, we then laid the individual river rock pebbles to create the edge of the stone path and traced around each stone to create the pattern on the porcelain tile. Fourth, the pebbles were removed, the porcelain tiles numbered, cut and repositioned and adhered to the concrete stoop. The last phase was to place the river rock pebbles, one by one to create the path. Like most tile, it was grouted the following day. A clear coat sealer was applied to the river rock pebbles only to add a bit of sheen to them. I have used this idea several times on higher end homes and people just love it! Thanks for the inquiry! Have fun with your project.

    Hello Becky,

See the previous thread on the stone pebbles. Surrounding the stone pebbles is a porcelain tile over the concrete poured stoop. No additional concrete was used in this process. Thanks
