To make your ranch into a colonial style home, you might browse home plans sites for "colonial ranch" styles to find something you can use as a pattern to update yours. Generally, colonial homes have a much steeper pitch to the roof line than yours does, so keep an open mind. You might be better off to work with the style you have, and that would be a less expensive upgrade too. Better pix are needed to be of much help to you. I do think the bushy shrubs should be removed unless they are seasonal bloomers. Then they need pruning and possibly transplanting at the proper time.
