We are currently in the middle of refinishing the hardwood floors throughout our cape style home. Upstairs there are 2bedrooms and a small hallway in heart pine as well as the risers and treads of the staircase. The entire downstairs including an open kitchen/living area two bedrooms and small hallway are white oak. They have just been sanded and our flooring professional suggested an oil based urethane called Poloplaz Premium. I really wanted a water based poly such as bona traffic to avoid fumes and the auburn coloring. He tried it in a small section of the floor today and I did not like the amber color it brought out in our white oak floors. I want the floors to be a light to medium brown (such as the mini wax special walnut or similar color). Unfortunately he went ahead and put a first coat of the Poloplatz Urethane on the entire upstairs (no stain). I have yet to see it but am pretty confident I will not be happy with the coloring and I am also really not wanting an oil based finish as we will be moving into the home within a week after the floors are finished. My question is what can we do at this point? We are on a time crunch and need the floors finished in the next week. Do we now need to re sand
the second floor?. I am hoping that is not necessary as he told us because the upstairs flooring is nailed directly to the joists we will only be able to do one more light sand in the future. Please help!!!!
