Need some height,actually many varied heights...need some trees, not taller than 25 ft when mature, as house is ranch height..

I,d start with a tree in the lawn, placed halfway between the house and the streetin the front..it can be placed in Two possible locations.....either centered between the windows on the left side of the house(but far in front of it!). Or centered in lawn in front of the right side of the house...this way it wouldnt block the front door, but would create alot of depth, and interest..

i,d pick a flowering,vase or rounded shaped tree, like a japanese cherry, magnolia, crabapple...always need to check with a good garden center that the tree will look beautiful in all seasons!!, dont purchase at home depot or lowe,s..

evergreens need to be added as foundation plants, in front of the house on the left side i,d use more than One variety...perhaps azaleas under the wondows, and taller rhododendrons in the corners...i,d probably add another small tree or shrub between the two windows...If its really sunny,can be a grorgeous crepemyrtle. That would give you fabulous late summer color...should be at least 15 feet tall when mature, and be shrublike. this means having many stems from the bottom, not a single stem..snother choice, especially if partly sunny is a redbud or shadblow tree, but they spring flowering like the azaleas, rhodos,and magnolia, or cherry tree. i generally try to get as many flowering weeks as i can out of a property!!!
Start withthat and you cant go wrong...

What is the sun exposure in the front of your home?

The front of the house is facing north. Just to the left of the photo is a large water oak, which is causing the shade seen in the photo. This was an early morning photo in the spring. Therefore, It's mostly sunny with a bit of shaded area right against the house.

I was also thinking of replacing the shrubs with something else.
