Not happy with how this backsplash turned out so much. Any advice?

Find some photos of backsplashes you like very much. Then upload them to an ideabook. It'll be a lot clearer what changes would fit your vision.

I wouldn't have done the microwave that way, but otherwise it looks good to me. I like that it picks up the brownish tones of the counter without introducing a busy pattern.

The backsplash looks nice to me. You spaced the brown tiles really well and it goes with the counter. As with every update project, it leads to more projects.

Clear your counters of everything that isn't absolutely necessary every day. Put your sink thingies all together on a small tray and then group other things on a narrow tray or two. Instant organization. The red accents aren't working well with the cabinets. Bring in some stainless accessories, such as a utensil holder, small appliances, paper towel holder and new cabinet handles (handles may be a problem given the door hinges). Make sure you leave some open, clear counter space. These are just a few small fixes that will make your kitchen sparkle.

My suggestion would also be changing the way the microwave was done. I would suggest doing only the white tiles behind the microwave, as the size and placement of the microwave and the cabinet don't exactly make the accent tiles line up with the rest of the backsplash.

I would stain the cabinets darker and the whole kitchen would look better;)

The white appliances throw the kitchen off, in my opinion. The backsplash is nice but it is hard to determine the actual color of the countertop. Perhaps, if you had a larger microwave in the space, you would like it better. Good luck!!

You could change out the counter top to give it a different look. The white appliances could be changed also if you are wanting a different feel. Over all it looks ok. Here is the closest pic I have of something like what you have done here.

You could do a darker stain on the cabinets and add some under the cabinet lighting.

Stainless appliances and under the cabinet lighting would make a big difference and you could leave everything else the same.

Wow, some of us sure see things differently. I love this little kitchen ... cabinets, hardware, red accents, small microwave, and all. It seems organized, functional, cozy, and lived in by real people. The microwave placed above the range would drive me crazy personally, and I'd want a white sink to match the appliances, but otherwise I'd be delighted with it as is.

You have a country kitchen look going on. Your backsplash seems to fit with the cabinets and all the decor. If you were going to totally rehab the kitchen then the backsplash wouldn't work but it fits right in with the whole look.

The one thing I would have suggested to do differently is remove the 4" backsplash of counter material and bring your tiles from the cabinets all the way down to the counter so that area wouldn't looked chopped with the 2 surfaces on the small wall.
