Collections can be a challenge to display in your home, especially when they keep growing and growing and growing. Shells can be a great design element, though! Do you collect them?

I usually find seashells in bathrooms to be a bit tacky and overused but this is beautiful.

My great-aunt brought a complete collection of shells each one labeled back from the Far East on one of her trips that she gave me. I still have it in storage but have been debating bringing them out for display.

YES! We live at the beach 7 mos of the year. So it is a given that they fill pretty vases, bowls, baskets & center pieces.

If you have a home by the beach I think you can be used, but otherwise no so much.
I collect sea glass instead of shells when on vacation, a bit harder to find (depending where you go).

Absolutely. I have sea shells, rare fossils, beach glass, and semi-precious rocks. The large pieces are on stands, but the smaller items are in bowls. I also like glass floats displayed with them.

Angel18432, Upper Michigan on Lake Superior has the best beach glass. I live in the PNW now, and most glass I find, is not done yet. :-D

Shells are one thing (and lovely) but someone pointed out to me, virtually all of the starfish you can buy are killed for that purpose. Just FYI, everybody Too bad, as I love the look.

patatas, I live in an area where we have plenty of starfish. Too many starfish can actually damage the quality of vegetation and coral in the ocean. While they are cool to see in their environment, it's important to keep the populations low. As far as I know, people don't kill our starfish, but there has been a concern about how many there are...that is usually not a good sign.

After forty years of vacationing and then living on Sanibel Island, Florida, our family has way more shells than we can ever display, and yet it is hard to walk past a perfect specimen without picking it up. Live shelling is now against the law, so I sometimes will take extras from our storage area and drop them back on the beach. It is always fun to watch people's excitement when they find that tulip or murex.
