I hope all your furniture isn't as bulky as that chair. If you're buying new, look at seating that's a bit more trim so the room doesn't end up looking overstuffed.

My inclination is to put the TV on wall where the console is now, with a cabinet underneath that spans the whole wall. A small sectional could sit on the wall and facing window and TV, and two not-bulky chairs might float in front of the window with enough space to walk behind.

Get your furniture arrangement right before you even think about decor.

Thank you groveraxle! I just noticed in the pictures I took, it doesn't show that the opening to the dining room is adjacent to where I set the black bookcase. Do you still think a sectional would look good there? It may cover the opening a bit.

Paint moulding white first. I love Sherwin Williams "blonde" yellow for the walls. Try a sample...it is gorgeous. It is a tan based yellow that goes great with most accent colors. Also love "nomadic desert" from them too for a neutral but not boring tan. Please consider a lighter laminate or wood floors for shine. Also make roman shades out of a beautiful fabric (super easy to make). They add a finished touch to the room. Good luck!

I would place an l-shaped couch (longer length under window and shorter against brown wall - then add a table/lamp to the end of the shorter side and a floor lamp on the other side. Add large piece of art above couch. Place tv on wall next to dining room doorway with some type of shelving/bookcases and chair on the right wall. If you are not adding bookcases with the tv, use that right wall for a console table with a set of prints above. See window treatment in picture as an idea. I also think room would be updated by painting the trim white. To begin the whole process, I would start with the couch to lead you to colors and styles of accessories. Have you considered layering the carpet with an Over-sized Rug? This can help make the room appear larger, and add an element of color and pattern.
