Should we hire an Interior Designer?

My wife and I are going to be purchasing a resale home in North Dallas sometime this year, because we want more control over the design of the home than we will have with a new constructions by the various builders we've seen.

When it comes to decor Im more the woman of the house, and I know exactly what it is that I want. I dont have an idea, or know I want it kinda like some picture Ive seen. I know exactly what I want.

So my question is, with very limited funds (between 90-70k) depending on the purchase price, to remodel the kitchen, fireplace, hard wood on main level, new carpeting upstairs, add some moldings and redo 3 bathrooms, would it make sense to hire an Interior designer or should I just source everything myself and look for a good contractor?

I think if you and your wife have different styles, it might pay off to at least consult with a designer over some of the finish choices. Maybe you can find one that will work within your budget for consultation only?

Hiring a pro is always the best way to go. You'll save money in the long run.

The question is do you know where to get what you want and for the right price? Do you know what you want and can you and your mate agree on the concepts? Can you make a decision without mulling it over for days etc? After 12 yrs in this business I say yes hire a Designer, even people who are decisive need direction and confirmation. You may just need a support buddy to tell you your direction is going to work. Someone to buffer the daily dilemmas Husbands and Wives face in building or remodeling. Yes, you should :)

Thank you all for your feed back. We ended up getting set back in the home buying process so we didnt make a choice yet, but I think we are going to go the interior designer rout when we do buy a home.
