@gmanole: When granite is honed, it is treated and polished just enough to have a matte or very low-gloss appearance, before the stone becomes reflective/shiny. It's a popular and widely appreciated treatment but be warned that honed surfaces generally require a little more maintenance because they are more absorbent. Basically, they just need to be kept clean and sealed from time to time.
