I would lighten the cabinets, for the room looks tight and dark.

Leave them but can you replace two uppers with glass doors to lighten it up?
I happen to like the old with the new. I do want to incorporate two glass front doors. Not sure.

Definitely paint cabinets paint wall and also the crown molding remove curtains and replace with wide slat blinds or roman shade this will look like a brand new room for very little

If you don't want to paint the cabinets, how about changing out the hardware for something a bit more updated instead?

@micheleb622...I actually did. It's bronze but updated. Thanks for the advice.

@apple_pie_order....great idea. I was planning to get bamboo shades to give it a warm and cozy feel. Thanks for the positive feedback.

Paint them! I painted mine a creamy white, opened up kitchen, makes it look bigger and brighter!

Creamy paint. Just did mine. Are your cabs wood or laminate? I deglossed using Krud-Kutter,then Kilz, then painted them. Doors and hardware off, spray paint doors if u can. Consider new hardware also.

Very nice kitchen, and to me the cabinets look great as is. They seem to blend nicely with your new counter. Do you really need a window covering (e.g. for privacy or to block sunlight at certain times of day)? Eliminating it might open and lighten up that area. I'd consider a fan with sleeker lines. Love the clock, but the current fan sort of interferes with the view of it.

@makaloco.....thank you for the positive feedback. I do love my kitchen. My goal was to have more counter space and making it look bigger and brighter. I think I achieved it. However I do plan to buy a warm color bamboo shade to replace the curtains and replace the fan with something different. Not sure what though. I do want to install a pendant on front of the window. similar to the picture.

Love that pendant! Where did you find it?
For the ceiling fan, I'd stick with white or bronze and clean simple lines. Single light with a plain cover (if you can find one).

@makaloco I actually pin it from Pinterest !!

I think the kitchen would look great if the cabinets were lighter; it would really brighten and expand the room. I like this example. The backsplash helps blend the dark counter and light cabinets together.
