Ugly breezeway. HELP!!

We are buying a fixer upper. It has a hideous breezeway. Any ideas on how to make it look better or even just flow with the rest of the house??

I don't know how wide it is, but think you could open it up and use it as a place to hang out. One of those glass garage doors would be great on the side where the north wind blows.

You could make a little courtyard in front of it with a small fence to even up the line of the house - or - painting the brick to match the rest of the house would give the illusion of a straight line.

Paint the brick (follow instructions). Keep in mind you will be going basically from a maintenance free exterior to one that will potentially need some paint upkeep. Although in most cases exterior painted brick has a certain appeal when "weathered" after time. As far as color - it needs to compliment the yellow siding. Is the window trim and door brown??? Is it possible to paint the garage doors and front door to match the breezeway??? This would help bring the whole look together. Sherwin Williams Mossy Gold or Sconce Gold (or compatible color) would be a darker choice or Ancestral Gold or Moonraker for a lighter choice. Just make sure the yellow and or brown tones in the choice you make are in the same family of the siding and window trim.

It definately looks like an addition as it us. It all depends on your budget. On a lower budget I would have breezeway same colour as house and garage, eliminate door in breezeway, and have windows all the sane. For a higher budget consult an architect for ideas to tie the 3 different roofs together.

This is the new color of siding we are putting up. With white trim.

You could add a pergola with a coutryard and vines. Add brick planters to the front of the house.

Here's a good blurb I found when researching breezeways that you can use with friends and family. lol:
" At the end of the entry path, a breezeway connects the main house to the garage and serves as the main threshold into the home. The back side of the breezeway is all glass and enjoys views of the backyard. Two large pots of miscanthus flank the front door. "We play around with the plants in these containers."
    Well said.

BTW not sure if you have enough, but you probably can reuse the existing walkway cement squares for the new patio in front of the breezeway. It's all about repurposing what you already have.

Nice Denise. Another benefit to losing the front door is you gain wall space in your home.

Thanks, nikitasmom. I was thinking the same thing. The breezeway is going to be the answer for all of the entrance "stuff" we all have. Makes me want a breezeway! This could be lovely. And I would put two small outdoor chairs on the patio depending on the view around.
