No candy jar...the kids will eat the candy in no time...and so will I!!

To me candy dishes sort of go along with jello molds and old folks. Personally, I don't do either. I do keep a stash of dark chocolate, but eat sparingly. Also offer it to guests...sparingly. Most other candy is just sugar, corn syrups, etc. No contest with dark chocolate!

    so welcoming

I love having a fancy little dish of candy in the living room/family room available to all who stop by.

Well, yeah! Who doesn't LOVE a candy dish?!

I have one near my desk at work , one on a hall table, and of course, one on the coffee table ( just for laughs , that one is a vintage crystal " grandma dish") and EVERYBODY seems to head straight for them. Of course, I ONLY BUY WRAPPED CANDY

my daughter buys small chocolates that I like but she doesn't. She isn't tempted and I get treated when I visit!

Only at parties....or in my office.

I didn't realise people did this! How about a good old fruit bowl instead? Much healthier.

Viewing some of these comments, a few of us grew up in a different generation where eating healthier foods wasn't really a focus like it is today. I come from a Norwegian background, a lot of butter and sweets, not only candy, but other Norwegian treats. Today, we still enjoy those traditional treats only at holiday time.

LIfe is so much sweeter WITH candy;))

I eat very healthy 99% of the time, but I agree Margo! A little chocolate never hurt anyone, in fact, dark chocolate has anti-oxidants and is very healthy in small quantities.

Yes! I made a large piece of pottery for display and in it I place seasonal candy.

My mother always had candy in a beautiful glass dish in the entry way. It had a lid, so you could hear when someone got candy. When my children were growing up this was a big part of visiting Grandma's. My daughter now has the dish in her home...treasured memories.

I keep an opaque, black glass shallow bowl/plate with (iridescent) dichroic glass slumped around the edge in the refrigerator, since I like the way the plate looks “lit up”. I always keep peppermint patties (with metallic silver foil) in it.
Peppermint patties (& peanut butter cups) are always better cold.

I'll put seasonal candies out in a bowl when having friends over. When I have a large party I'll have a dessert table with a few types of candies in tall decorative jars or crystal. Looks so festive. On a daily basis no.

I don't like hard candy available but love the containers within which they are, I have containers on my coffee tables daily but of mixed nuts, and a variety of fruit.

Yes! I have a candy dish by the entry hall. Mr. Bently the Butler serves them up. Wrapped candy - currently foil wrapped chocolate/mints. @cjrisk...Yes! When children are here, it is funny how they try so hard not to make noise when closing the lid.

Nothing against candy, note the dishes they come up, but I gotta pass, its just not worth the clutter.
Since I got two children (3&4) the sweets are stored in a box on a high shelf in the supply closet.

My husband keeps a jar of candy in his in-home office. I periodically raid the jar, depending on my mood. Wouldn't want to live without it! ;)

Instead of candy, I use a decorative dish as a convenient, easy to remember place to store my car/house keys. #BeSeenBeSafe

We have an empty silver candy dish on our sideboard that was made by my grandfather. I have such fond memories of that dish growing up. Strange, the things we get attached to. - rf

In the kitchen, absolutely! I think they add color, especially when one type of candy. I like each in its own display like the photo above.

My grandmother always had a beautiful candy dish waiting for us when we came to visit. I still remember the pretty glow of candied orange slices through turquoise glass. :)

Absolutely. Just in case friends and family want a little treat!

My Maltese would have it cleaned out in seconds! And who needs all that sugar, anyway. We pass.

i suppose if we routinely had visitors i'd be more than glad to show-off some of my gorgeous antiques. but.....it's just the two of us and our critters. so, no candy out. i like my chocolates frozen, so my stash in in the kitchen freezer.

Usually around holidays (Valentines, St. Pat's, Easter etc, etc) I have a few mason jars filled with candy on the counter.

I keep mason jars with walnuts, almonds & dried cranberries on the counter always.

Anybody ever have a Bun Bar? My personal favorite;)

Every Granny needs a candy dish for her sweeties!!

absolutely, with a tight fitting cover so that i can't accidentally grab one as i walk by.

i bought glass candy in venice... really its just as satisfying as the real, it turns out the need for color is in the head not in the stomach.

going out of style. plus, they tempt you to indulge too often.

No thanks. One more thing to dust and wash if it's covered and if it's not? I'm not interested in whatever is in there anyway. I'll eat candy from a new package that I open and serve myself, thanks. Then I know the history of it.

I have beautiful vintage cut glass candy dishes that are always on display whether or not they have any candy in them. I do put candy out during the holidays or when we are having people over for dinner.

Love candy !!! It makes me happy.

My mom never had a candy dish out...she has always been the very self-controlled type in every way ;0

I have a bowl in my living room that I use for candy from time to time, especially holidays. I keep it out whether it's filled with candy or not. I think it's fun and homey :D
