Plaids hands down...they are much easier on the eyes, warm and cozy where as stripes are too dizzy, distracting . Stripes are cold and barren. Although I do like some pastel stripes that are very narrow -they tend to be calming and don't make you dizzy looking at them.

I don't have anything of either style in my home, but if I had to choose, I'd take stripes over plaid. Really, I'm more partial to a style like this....with one stripe.

neither. Want something with some sort of ornamental curves or I feel uncomfortable.

I have to go with both. I like both and Ikat, paisley...mixing prints solids for an amazing look ! I definitely can't stand the "froo-froo" flowers everywhere look that is over the top feminine. ..ugh!! I like to mix it up with those patterns and rich colors.

I'll pass on both. Plaids look to masculine for me. I can take small stripes in small doses.

With the drapes behind almost looking striped, the plaid doesn't look very good (to me). In addition to that, I'm not crazy about that particular plaid anyway. I'd definitely go with a plain or very subtle print. The striped bedspread looks fine in the other room as it gives it an almost nautical feel. So I guess my answer is "it depends".

strips are the way to go and has been in style for awhile. Plaid is also coming back in style in clothing this fall so stay tuned for colors and ideas..It also depends on the room and house as well.

Stripes are so much easier to mix with other things. They can go different directions and can be small or large.

It depends on the style of the home. I have seen plaid used in a cottage/ farm house house plan that made the room appear warm and cozy, but I have also seen a striped chair with matching throw pillows on the couch turn a frumpy living room more elegant.

I don't have any stripes or plaids, in my home. But if I did it would depend on the size and color of the stripes or plaids. I wish HGTV USA, still had Sarah Richardson's program. She was a master at mixing fabrics.

Saw a picture in a decorating magazine years ago and since I love stripes I knew I had to have these for my dining room. Could not possibly afford to have them custom made, I tracked down the material and made them. Took me a few years to work up the nerve since I am NO seamstress, but love the drama of the stripes.

You have to be careful with both plaids and stripes, not wanting to make folks dizzy or feel like they're viewing a test pattern on TV. I have a striped rug in my kitchen of light blue and deeper blue and my summer duvet is white on white striped. Other than that, no plaid.

I can handle plaid in a winter scarf or even a skirt. Just not around the house, but we live in a beach community and it just doesn't work.

STRIPES SAY: "LOOK AT THIS!" PLAIDS SAY: "WELCOME!". BEING OF SCOTTISH DESCENT, I PREFER TARTANS, A SORT OF PLAID WITH A FAMILY HISTORY.

I have plaid furniture in my livingroom, in soft blue, cream, tan, and teal... I have to say it looked good when country decor was huge. I love the comfort and quality of this furniture, so unless I find someone to make slip covers or cover the furniture with a different material, I have no plans of getting rid of it. For now it blends well with my cozy beach cottage decor. big bold stripes in blue and white also do well with the beach cottage theme... I feel it doesn't matter what pattern you use it's how you bring a room together and make it pleasing to your eye. I like both!

Plaids are great in men's shirts, madras shorts and the classic Pendleton Woolen Mills pleated plaid skirts and shirts. Stripes are far more appealing in home decor than plaids.
