How much water does it use?

Most of us in CA don't have enough water to keep weeds alive, so why grass?

This landscape project is in Vancouver, Washington. Note the dormant Vine Maple buds just swelling in March. This was a turf renovation project, where the owners have zero irrigation. Natural rainfall keeps it green 9 to 10 months out of the year. Much of our work here was performed to drain excessive water into rain garden shrub beds, so they too could thrive without irrigation. I've worked on golf & other turf areas in California and Nevada, where the local water authorities paid turf venues to remove turf and plant xerophyte (drought tolerant) landscapes in lieu of any grass. We spend about 50 percent of our business time redesigning and removing turf to install rain gardens. Thanks you for your interest! Oregon is actually the grass seed growing capital of the world, with much of the research there directed toward cultivating species that are more drought and disease tolerant.

I remember turf farms in Camarillo, California, then in Tehachapi....but lack of water ended both those areas use for turf. Sad to see some of the changes.
