Thanks, Brandi. I actually bought a lantern type from Ballard Designs but it just looks to new and mass manufactured. I guess I could do something to the finish to give it a little age.

Rita, that would have worked if I'd have thought of it before we put the drywall up! I don't want to go to the extra expense now to fix the existing hole in the ceiling and have an electrician out to rewire for sconces.

@carolins - you hit the nail on the head with the black one above. I just spent 3 hours off of Houzz searching online for a light and came across that one, too, and saved it to my idea book. I just popped back here to Houzz and you've posted it to my Design Dilemma! Of all the thousands of lights out there that you could have picked, that's a sign! It seems to be the perfect mix of traditional form with some clean lines. I think that's the front runner right now, but I will post one or two more for everyone's thoughts.

Here's your first option (I like it more than I thought I would). Don't know if I've got the size approx. right for the lamps (not an inches person, I do centimetres ;-)). Just to give you an idea of how they would look in your foyer.

Wow, you are photoshopping for me and everything! Actually the first one you photoshopped is not the one I liked. It was the black Minka Lavery semi flush with 3 lights. I think it was the 2nd one you posted If it helps at all to visualize, I am thinking of painting the doors either a dark gray or black. .

For a ceiling light in your hall, first measure the length and width of the space. That determines the size of your fixture. If your hall is 10 x 6, it can accommodate a 16" fixture. For an eight foot ceiling, the fixture should be about 12" in height at the most. Probably a flush mount would work.
