need help in kitchen counter top...

what color of a granite top should i use, i have a white cabinet, gray paint and a brown backsplash shown below? thanks!

    Hello Peevs,

    The tile is beautiful!! Let that strong tile backsplash pattern shine as the focus! Select a countertop that will not compete with the strong geometric. There are dozens of granites with small patterns which would act to enhance the backsplash rather than detract from it as a large grain granite would.

    With a white, grey and brown color scheme already in place, you might want to consider keeping the countertop neutral. If you don't mind white, take a look at the following:

    Another material which might work well for you in a countertop is zinc. It is silver, which will work with your neutral color scheme, and will age gracefully with a lovely dark patina. Check in your area to see who is a certified installer.

      Gorgeous backsplash tiles! I'd be tempted to go with either black granite or soapstone (which ranges from a color like the charcoal gray in your backsplash to near black, both with white veins, once oiled).

      Kashmer white, I did a similar backsplash it is white glass gray granit and stainless steel. I went with the whiter granit and black appliances, I like that latter if I wanted I cold change the appliances to stainless or white. The black realy makes everything stand out.

      I love your back splash! I am doing the same color scheme and I haven't decided on a countertop. I am leaning towards the soap stone.

      Since I am not a fan of granite, I think it can be too busy, I would look at a quartz counter top, even Corian has some new colors that would look great.

      Hi, you have some good advice. I too, am not a fan of granite and the veining in most granite might compete with the pattern on your backsplash. I'd look at quartz, corian, mysteria or a solid surface material that is more subdued as pchotas has suggested...but that is likely a personal preference. Caesarstone makes a few colours that I think would work nicely. see:

      Have you seen Silestone (a quartz product) that looks like a white veined marble without the maintence?

      I would try Caesarstone which is a quartz product - pebble is a great one, shitake, and organic white - It is a great product looks clean and crisp, oh and you can't hurt it!!!!

      I agree with a light color and passing on the granite for a beautiful more color controlled product like Stilestone or Caesarstone. The tile is so awesome you wouldn't want a product that would distract from it. Good luck with all this wonderful advice to complete your project!

      I agree with some comments above. It seems that Silestone is getting very popular it seems these days and they have some very nice colors to choose from. It also will not allow for bacteria growth so can be used in a lot of applications such as kitchen, bath, hospitals and doctors offices. LG Hausys (used to be LG Hi Macs) also has some great colors to choose from. Good Luck! Love your back splash choice!

      Have you thought of Paper Stone? Recycled product awhich will becoming more popular, easy to install is warm to touch - granite is so cold, I used to work at our island with granite tops and by the end of the day I was freezing - it was the cold granite.

      Ohhh I love your backsplash too. I also have used Caeserstone and my client's were very happy with it's performance over granite. I think the Shitake is a wonderful choice with your white cabinets, gray paint and the backsplash choice. Brushed nickle pulls would also add to the room and maybe add a bit of sparkle with lighting.

      Be careful with soapstone - it is beautiful but it definelty has a green hue to it.

      Soapstone requires more maintenance too! It will stain easily and require a yearly sealing.

      I agree with the soapstone comments. It is a beautiful product, but really gains a patina over time and will not keep the cool feel you have going with the whites and greys.
      Ceasar Stone is a wonderful option. It is in the higher end price point of most solid surface materials, but worth it for beauty, ease of use & longevity.

      when I was researching solid surfaces for countertops, I believe I read that soapstone will darken with age. That might be something to consider.

      It definitely darkens with age. It is a very soft material and is extremely porous. You either love the fact that it looks old and worn, or you don't. It is a very popular product on the East Coast in older homes where people are looking for that worn look.
