Dear Houzz Community,
I am hoping for some advice on dining chairs for our dining room in our 1940's San Francisco house, which is a few blocks from the beach. I am going for a coastal contemporary vibe, but the caveat is that everything has to be kid-friendly (we have two kids under 5) and relatively inexpensive (no more than about $100 per chair, ideally less, and would love to work with what I have.)

Photo one is our current set up with our old Room and Board Chairs that are a little battered, but still functional. I am thinking this might be too much white but want to hear from you. On either side of our buffet are original knoll chairs I bought on Craig's list that will be brought in for extra seating when guests come.

Photo two includes a mid-century chair I inherited from grandma (she also made the somewhat creepy statue on the buffet), and I have four or them. The third photo is a close up. I was thinking of getting them re-upholstered in a grey ostrich vinyl, which would be super durable, but they are not so easy for small children to get in and out of so I could only use two at the table for now. I am thinking this might be too many different chairs, even for the eclectic look I like. To make matters even more complicated, I have tolix style bar stools (slightly visible on left side of photo one) under the kitchen peninsula which connects the dining and kitchen space.

What do you think? How should I set up the chairs in my space and are there additional chair options which would be fabulous?
