Painting house

We are trying to decide between paint, siding or a product called Rhino shield. Any comments or ideas? Our home is reddish brick with some brown and tan in it, and some vertical type siding. The gables look like stucco, but they are sided. Now we have a light taupe, with a darker taupe trim. I am ready for a new color. I will appreciate any ides. we tried some samples from Benjamin Moore and they all looked sort of light blue! The darker shades looked like gray, but the light ones didn't.

I had a long response written up but it didn't post for some reason so I'll try again.

Your brick is neutral enough that you can go with a lot of different colors. If this was my house I would go with either an olive green or a muted grayish green or blue to give the house a lot of contrast. I would paint the trim including the stuff on the gable either a couple of shades darker than the house color, or if using a dark color on the house, a cream color. I wouldn't go with white unless you love bright white.

Here are some colors to get you started. Be sure and click on the Preview Color in a Room tab as it's the room painter program. There is an exterior tab so you can apply colors to homes themselves. The 'add color' button will take you back to the color palettes, and you can have up to 10 colors at once. I used this extensively when trying to decide what colors to paint my house. If you like color, it's great fun.

The big gable is on the east side, there are four of them. The porch is mostly covered. The window shown with the paint swatches is the kitchen window in the back. The four windows are west facing in the dining room., and the one with the little quilt square is an extension of that wall. You can see my problem with the picture of the paint swatches. The lighter colors all look blue. Should I just stick to the colors I have, and if so, how can we update? We are having all the wood repaired/replaced as part of the process. Thanks.

I liked the idea of the gray green.. a neighbor down the street used that color with a dark grey and a soft off white, and their brick is almost the same as ours. My husband, however, is not a fan of green.

I've had some problem with Houzz the last 2 days--very strange....

Glad you liked the color. Now to find something your husband likes.....One thing you might do is drive around your area and look at homes that have brick on them, and see what colors the different owners used. It's a great time to point out what you like, and for your husband to point out what he likes. From there you can try to find homes you both like, and go from there.

we seem to be polar opposites! I like the cool colors..he likes warmer ones, but we did both like the white quartz we put in the kitchen..and it has a soft gray in it. We painted the walls a pale blue.

Hayley, here is the finished color we chose for the exterior of the house. We were pleased with the appearance. The full view of the house is after the painting was done. The other one is before.
