Think trees, real or not to add colour and texture.

I think for that size room, you don't need an accent wall. All green would be more cohesive. Two large matching lamps would be better on those end tables which flank the sofa. The floor lamp could be moved elsewhere in the room. The white lamp doesn't complement the dark one. The rug underneath your dining table is too small and the chandelier is hung too high. The nice soft elements you have going on in that room just need stronger, darker contrast.

The picture above the sofa is not appropriate for the space. You need a set of 3 or 4 pieces that work together. something like this: Not necessarily this piece, but you get the idea. A little punch of bright color is not a bad idea either.

The 2 art pieces on your dining room are hung too low. And if you can afford it, substitute the shade of that lamp next to the couch for something like this:

But it's looking great! Trial and error are one way to go, try it out and return if you don't like it :)

The pieces in the DR are just hung at the right height they can be lower in there than in the LR why not try swapping the pics from the DR to the LR. I would get rid of the spindly floor lamp put a nice large lamp on the end table by the sofa one like your other table lamp would work, your chadalier could be hung much lower(about 36" from the table top)

I like your idea of switching the art work, but do you think that I would need another object to get the right size above the sofa? Now I wish I would have bought a third green square painting....it would probably have worked better size-wise above the sofa.

Looking to replace the rug. I will go bigger this time! Would you stay with a solid?

I've been looking for a lamp to replace the white one, but nothing yet. Also, I like the idea of buying objects with pops of color. I love orange, but what other colors would you recommend?

Also, would you replace the glass table with wood? If so, round or rectangle?

If you like orange, look for a pair of orange-colored ceramic base lamps. I think there are many which are not too expensive. Your dining room rug would be pretty with an orange and green pattern. Be sure it's large enough so that when moving the chairs away from the table, the chairs remains on the rug without getting caught on the edge. You might have to rearrange the sideboard and whatever else is in that room.

I think I might start by removing things. I love the new sofa but don't like how the big table to the right of it looks, so I'd remove that table. Then, if the sofa isn't currently directly centered across from the chairs, I'd move the sofa over to the right so it is. Then, I think the dining room looks too crowded on the left side. I'd love to see the dining area with just the table and no other furniture. I agree the chandelier is too high and the dining rug is too small. I'd hang the dining room art in a vertical pair (with 3" separation) somewhere in the home. So, I think you've got nice things, but too much stuff (often in the same area). Once you've simplified (if you choose to), then I'd take a new set of pics to discuss lighting and what else needs to be added. The art might look nice with all of it behind the sofa - a vertical stack of two with the bigger piece to the side and centered on the vertical stack. Sorry I couldn't find a better example of the art arrangement, but imagine your art placed as the round metal pieces in this Houzz pic - does that make sense?

Kind of a crazy idea, but wondering how the dining room buffet piece would look in the wall space under the living room window? Probably wouldn't work but just thinking out loud.

love the furniture and accent pillows and colors!! Does all of the furniture need to be pushed against the walls? especially The two chairs backed up as far as they can go. How about pulling everything towards the center a little to make it more cosy and comfy.

I agree all walls could be green. not crazy about tall lamp in corner.

Here is a better example of the art arrangement I'm wondering about for over your sofa. It looks like the colors of the dining room and living room art work well together, so this might work and provide the larger art look the living room could use. Also, it's fine if the tops and bottoms of the right and left sides of the grouping don't match up (they look like they do in this example, but it's certainly not necessary).

I don't like to be critical but I get a "first" apartment vibe not someone who has owned tables for 35 years. I think it can all work with some rearranging. I think Ann has a great idea for moving the buffet to the LR under the window. Then try that large square end table between the 2 chairs and the other one over by the sofa. Floor lamp must be sitting on rug because it is tilted, it needs to go, try a more substantial one. Less larger pieces are better than many small pieces. Get a rug for DR with pattern even if it is muted colors you need some interest over there. Already mentioned lower chandelier. I don't care for the art work (again that "first" apartment vibe) but art work is very personal so go with some of the suggestions above.

Jck910- I know what you mean by first apartment look. That's why I came to this site for help. This is a 1970's split foyer and the living room is approximately 13' x 14'. I'll try seeing what the server looks like below the l.r. Window, but I'm afraid it will look cramped.

I will switch out the floor lamp with one I use in another room. I also like the idea of switching the tables. As far as the "art", I wanted something that had those colors. I know you're not supposed to try and pick your art work to match your sofa, but....

I also want to get a d.r. Rug with a pattern. Pottery Barn has an orange, gold, beige rug I've always loved. I've been afraid it's too much patter. I will try and attach a pic.

Whatever rug you select, please buy one which you can easily return. It's so hard to visualize how a rug will look in your own space. You might need to try more than one to get it right.

Since your thinking of pottery barn, take a look at their Alana pole top drapes, looks like they might be a nice fit for your room, remember to hang them high and full I think they will give your room a rich look.

I am speaking of the Alana sheer drape that has a medallion pattern similar to the color and pattern of your pillow. I also like your end table, I would like to see a large lamp on it.

maybe consider getting a larger coffee table, you have the space for it, by the way, i love your wallcolour, very calm and serene! maybe get also some glass vases to accent your scheme, they work very well, something like -
on your server
you could even fill that bowl with artificial green apples! and get a few frames on either side with yellow, white, brown frame

flowers will also give you great finishing touch - using any accessory, make sure to go with odd numbers - 3,5 - simple design rule

You know, I think I rather like that piece under the living room window. There is quite a bit of wall space there and I think it fills it pretty well. I like the idea of trying the tables switched. LOL, I know what you mean about your husband - mine feels the same way when I post dilemmas. What's the name of the PB rug you like. I'd be happy to post a pic of it for you if you haven't figured that out yet. Also, as far as the art goes, if you have any interest in grouping all three together as I discussed and you want to try it, just lay them on the floor in that arrangement and take a pic. That way, you and we can see how it might look without any holes in the wall. Also, if you do that on the floor, please measure the width of the arrangement so we can see how it will work over the width of the sofa. Let's see what we can do with your current things first before you spend any money. Sometimes, just moving things around can make a huge difference.

Ann, the arrangement would be 56" and the sofa is 90". The PB rug is Adeline, but after looking at it again, I don't think the colors are right, especially the background color-it looks grayish green. I like some of the rugs in previous posts-mostly green with white....so safe!

You know, that art just might work in a group of 3. What do you think? I might try this version with about 4" between the big piece and the other two. Then separate the pair by about 2". Then, I'd also try the same distance I just mentioned but with the pair turned so they are horizontal instead of vertical (still a vertical stack but each one of the pair turned horizontally).

Someone mentioned the coffee table being a bit small. I think that's true but if you pull it in a bit closer to the sofa (18" away), I think it would look a bit better.

I say group the art work, get longer curtains hung higher, a few glass baubles for the buffet under the window, a larger cocktail table, a patterned rug in the dining room and you're done. Of corse, I also don't think rooms have a first apartment feel to begin with though, so what do I know;)

You know in that photo of yours with the server under the window the room looks very good. I like your coffee table and don't think you need a different size.
