Quartz is great because there is no maintenance. Granite must be sealed annually.

Takes 20 minutes to seal granite, not a big deal at all. Both are nice. Go for a cleaner color in either and it will have a more timeless appeal. Best of luck!

Quartz you have to be careful what cleaners you use on it... Granite sometimes loses the shine.

We have quartz in the home we just purchased. The seller worked for the department of health and did bacteria testing on several types of countertops and chose quartz because it was the most sanitary. I don't know any details just found it interesting.

I think quartz is the more popular of the two right now, but of course, styles come and go. Between the two, I think I'd go with quartz.

The pros and cons of each..to be honest it is wash between the 2. Each has their own concerns and benefits thanks to new sealers for granites. Granite pricing can get crazy on some of the colors where as quartz has a top end price point. If you go quartz make sure you get a good manufacturer. Caesarstone,Silestone,LG and Cambria are some of the best on the market. Cambria tends to have more of a "granite" look where Caesarstone and Silestone tend to look just alike. LG too but LG has one of the best looking faux carrara marble look on the market. We often use a quartz for the cabinets along the walls and a granite on the island to show off that character. Best of both.

We have both. Functionally, I see no difference. Aesthetically, it's your choice. We chose Cambria for our quartz since it is American made. Overall, I prefer the less busy look available in the quartz products. Your choices are almost endless.

I have granite and while I enjoy the natural look it can be busy and hard to see where to clean. I would prefer quartz because it doesn't need to be sealed. I just had to seal mine because water stains started to forms.

I have a satin finish granite, and LOVE IT! So easy, nothing shows, and it was middle of the road price. I wanted soapstone or quartzite so bad, but now wouldn't change for the world.

We have Silestone on our island and love it. Low maintenance, just wipe clean with a damp cloth. We did not like the busyness of granite.

I love my granite for its natural movement & surprise coloring. But it all depends on what's best for your home & style.

Granite is sealed naturally by the polishing process, there is no need to seal it. If you are paying for sealing, you wasted your money. We are tile and granite licensed/fabricators and we never seal our granite. Quartz is more trendy and costs more than granite. You will not have the natural movement in quartz like granite nor the character, i.e. mica flakes or patterns. This picture is of granite.
