Paint will be easier. You could do a dark brown or grey with a lighter cream or off white paint on top. Look in ideabooks for inspiration.

I would paint the cupboards white and change the handles. Not sure if the backsplash is blue or grey and would paint the walls a very soft version of that color. Your drapes feel a bit overwhelming..unless you need to close for privacy, wondering if you could have them altered to become roman blinds instead.

Here's an idea (wire mesh) i like for your upper cab doors But for personal reasons i would combine the wire mesh idea with say a frosted glass so what's on shelf isn't so clearly seen by guests

I think the consensus is to paint the cabinets white. The draperies are overwhelming and will be removed as they are 9 years old and the designer liked bold patterns. The new hardware I purchased are 4 inch brushed nickel bars, so they should look great on white. The backsplash is natural slate laid in a brick pattern, it matches the flooring. So the white will set off the backsplash and the granite countertops. Thank you all for you help! I can't wait to get started!
