Close to pulling all my hair out. HELP PLEASE!
I'm not sure which countertop to go with between two options.. Not permanently staying in this home. I like the brightness of the wood, but not the variation in it, along with a few knots. Not going for a "country" look. Sorry. The other counter is laminate and looks like doo-doo brown (lol), but these are really the only affordable choices I have. I don't want to special order anything since I'll be moving. Any opinions are much appreciated. (The tiles in the images attached are the tiles I'm using.) Everything was changed due to a water leak. Also, I'm changing the lights to brushed stainless and adding some cans. Sorry if this is confusing. Trust me I'm confused myself. I think next time I'll ask the houzzers in the beginning. :) Pictures with both lights on and off. Also, the peninsula is staying with the butcherblock. The light really effects the wall and countertop colors. I'm exhausted. :)

Tiffany, thanks for the tip about Brian Weiss… I ended up buying a different book on the topic which turns out to be very good. I thanked you on my thread, but you probably won’t see that so I’m going to thank you here. This is the book I ended up buying and I recommend it. For anybody interested in the topic…of course it’s not everybody’s gig.

Well it took me a week to get OH to take it over there I had to have my son crop it like I said take out important details like your name even though that's a stage name but are AKA and I wrote on it the front and the back and about the sewer from the information and told him what to buy oh finally went over there but the granddaughter that's like 20 years old said she'll give it to her Grandpa and she was so shocked to hear that it's that way but she said it's been there for a while but it doesn't have its berries on there and the animals must not have touched the leaves yet so we'll see what happens I told the age to clean up his own weeds cuz it sounds like a very dangerous plant to deal with could get on your clothes and everything almost need half suits we don't have that

Happy Here is what AI says. They recommend to wear gloves and avoid touching it with bare skin. Also that the removal of the whole root is best. Lots of sites say to pour boiling water on the roots to kill it.
If your friend is in Texas and dealing with a 10-foot-tall plant that has no berries at all by late August, there is a very high probability that this plant is actually Giant Ragweed (Ambrosia trifida) rather than pokeweed. [1, 2, 3]Both plants grow 10 to 12 feet tall, thrive along fence lines in Texas, and feature thick, hollow-feeling stems. However, true pokeweed produces unmistakable green-to-purple berry clusters all through the summer months. Giant ragweed produces no berries; instead, it develops long, spike-like, yellowish-green flower heads that look like part of the foliage. How Your Friend Can Confirm the Plant's IdentityBefore choosing a treatment method, have her check the leaves:
- If it's Pokeweed: The leaves will be smooth, egg-shaped, and completely unlobed (like a giant spinach leaf) with smooth margins.
- If it's Giant Ragweed: The leaves will be deeply divided into 3 to 5 large lobes, closely resembling a giant, rough maple leaf or a webbed duck foot. [1, 2, 3]
The Good News About Giant Ragweed If it is Giant Ragweed, the removal process is significantly easier because it has a different root structure:
- No Massive Taproot: Unlike pokeweed, which develops a permanent, woody bulb underground, Giant Ragweed is a strict annual plant. It has a much shallower, fibrous root system. [1, 2]
- It Dies Permanently in Winter: Its roots naturally die completely at the end of the season and will never grow back. It only returns next year if it drops seeds. [1, 2, 3, 4]
How to Kill It Now (Whether it's Ragweed or Pokeweed)Regardless of which weed it is, her action plan for a fence line remains nearly identical:
- Cut it down now: Cut the massive stalks 2 to 3 inches above the dirt to get the weight off the fence structure.
- The Stalk Trick: If it turns out to be pokeweed, she should use the hollow cup method described earlier (pouring 1–2 tablespoons of concentrated glyphosate or triclopyr down into the hollow base of the cut trunk).
- If it's Giant Ragweed: She can simply pour the herbicide inside, or even just yank the base out of the ground. Because ragweed doesn't have a giant taproot, it will pull up much easier than a pokeweed would.
Note for her safety: If it is Giant Ragweed, it sheds massive amounts of airborne pollen right now in late August. She should wear a protective mask while cutting it down to prevent a severe allergy attack! your friend can send you a quick photo or describe the shape of the leaves, I can immediately verify exactly which Texas giant she is fighting.

So far no action with the weed plant it has been hot in the '90s and it's going to continue for the week so I don't know maybe they know the name of it or they know what it is cuz they're from Mexico

Happy, If you copy and paste my posts about the plant into a Word document, then I will remove them from Zaz's site. I hope the dreaded plant (whatever it is) is gone soon. What a scare for your daughter with that truck and the blessed Angel that diverted the accident. It is evidence that our lives can be changed in the blink of an eye. Makes you value it more. All the more reason to not waste a day on useless things. Your OH and son did a good job meeting up with the neighbor. I found a photo of the Pokeweed. If you want to search for the weed you have in AI, I would state, "I need "plant identification" first so AI knows what it has to do. There are lots of different AIs this may help direct it to the right one. And no, all AIs are not equal.

tiffany that photo is of an elderberry..pokeweed has the berry in a straight line..think more of a narrow grape cluser

Well the the leaves are smaller stupid phone in the pic there the one in the yard over at the neighbors is large and they haven't did nothing about it yet I'm kind of thinking they won't bother

Thank you Printesa!😘 it’s funny I looked at that photograph and thought to myself my goodness… I wonder if pokeweed is another name for elderberry because sometimes plants have a couple of different names, particularly in different areas of the country.

I have pokeweed here and I pull it out and toss it. I don't let it grow. I love elderberry:) I used to have some, but it didn't make it during the landscape project. My MIL has one and she collects the fruit. I love the elderflower syrup..yummm.

That was the favorite berry that my grandmother would make wine from. The elderberry. She actually made wine from all kinds of things, but I would see her down in the field just about disappearing as she picked. I remember one wine that I tasted, and it was quite bitter, but a beautiful yellow color and it was made from dandelion flowers.

Alice, dandelion is bitter for sure:) I tried to drink tea from its roots and couldn't. Salad from the leaves before it blooms it's good for the liver, but I never get the chance to harvest it before it blooms

Is pokeweed elderberry the same as your elderberry print Tessa? That pokeweed Elderberry is mildly toxic it said on Google but the voice Google didn't say that but when you scroll down to it and hit the more it tells you more stuff and it says it's mildly toxic it will cause stomach cramps diarrhea and nausea

That seems to happen to me too sometimes Tiffany. I don’t know why it does that. Sometimes I go in to make a new post and the one I had done previously is in the comment section and I have to go delete it first to start a new.

I wonder if something has happened to Zaz or her family? I really hope not - and I check by here from time to time to see if she's responded to anything - but I haven't seen any input from her in such a long time. Such a neat lady. Miss her...

I sent her a text tonight. I was worried if the hurricane had caused them any issues.

Yay! She just texted me! Just lots of life going on this year. Fortunately her thyroid meds have been corrected after all these years. She is still working out 5 days a week, she has lost 20 lbs after all this time! The dish washer wasn’t working, and then tonight they had to go out and buy a new washing machine. And everything is smart as you all are aware. The boys have changed jobs. Plus, she is cleaning out her garage and getting it organized and selling stuff. So it was good to text back and forth.😁

The summer our patio home was 10 yrs old the washer needed a new belt, the microwave/oven combo key board died, the refrigerator died, and the garbage disposal needed to be replaced. I was fussing while we were at an appliance store, mand the clerk said they make them to last 8-10 yrs otherwise, they would be out of a job. 🙄😲

Ladies, this year has been my worst ever. As Queen Elizabeth said it was "annus horribilis." Four legal battles going on all at once, not finding competant help to work on the house. Seeded the front yard, and because of workers it is all dead. The terrential rains are due by Nov/Dec. Thanks to my current Contractor the yard drainage is finally all cleared out and working great. Only took him 4 hours. Apparently when the others didn't know how to do it they said tear out the concrete patio because the drains were likely broken under the concrete. Good thing I listened to my intuition and said no. Oscar had them all cleared out in 4 hrs. and they are all flowing well. None of the pipes under the concrete were damaged. Thanks intuition.
Haven't been able to fly to the MI house in a 1.5 years. Finally after finding Oscar I could leave it in his hands go to MI to check on things. Couldn't get the reservations systems to work. Thought thing were better. Nope had to change my departure date 3 times due to so many weird factors that interruped my trip. Cell phone malfunctioned day one when i was ready to go to the airport. No Cell no Urber; No ride = no plane. My new contractor actually took me to the airport on Tuesday. But because the wheelchair people never came to the car, he had to go with me inside to handle the luggage -- naturally my car was ticketed at the curb. Will have to fight that when i return. After the 3rd reschedule I finally boarded the plane.
It was a great flight and the young couple I sat with were lovely. The husband and I discussed his construction projects at his house and I had solutions for him. He even took my email address for future questions. Nice to help out a younger person since I've likely experenced many horror stories and had to find solutions over the years. Glad my problems became his solutions. Cell phone worked just long enough to call my cousin to pick me up. It is dead again. And people wonder why I still have a land line in both houses. This is why.
I am in my MI house writing this feeling much lighter. Only here until Oct 28. But not without some problems. Toilets did not work, but i remembered to dump a bucket of water into the bowl so good until the neighbor repaired it. Car batter is dead from sitting, another neighbor has his big charger on it now. By morning should work. Going immediately to the mechanic to see if there are any problems. House seems fine. Can't figure out how to work any of the TV's, put out the fireplace pilot light, work the ring doorbell, or any electronics, etc. Before technology I would have only needed to turn it on and decide a channel and poof I would have been watching TV. I need to sinc up the remote with some parts of the TV. Even with AI and instructions it hasn't happened yet. Hard to juggle the notes, the remote, and putting my glasses on and off to do it all. Glad i have my tablet with me and the computer is working.
Finally saw the Facebook Marketplace furniture I bought from pictures for the library. Got it all arranged and it looks really nice. The sofa and 2 chairs are ivory damask by Century. They look like brand new and are actually very comfortable. They really lightens up the library with against the walnut wood paneling. Was a great purchase for $500. I am still in touch with the seller. Hope we get to meet this trip. She has come down with something kind of virus infectin -- hope she is over it soon.
Will be getting after the yard people this next week. Day one neighbor was going for groceries and took me with her. BUT, the best part was she give me her massage therapist #. I have appt Wed. Its the only thing that stretches my hip ligament and lower back. I can almost feel it now. The massage number is already in my phone speed dial.
My OH's cousin's heart pacemaker is working well. She just had her last checkup and was good news. This was a new procedure of 3 small incisions to insert it -- New in the last year. They said it went like clockwork. Happy for her.
For the first time in 1.5 years I have rested better than before even with a dead battery. nice to get away for a bit to clear my head. Glad no major issues here to handle. My new contractor is the reason I can be gone because i trust to let him work without me. I plan to keep him forever. Finally, after the last few years, I don't need to supervisor him and question everything like with the others. Lets hope these bad problems will leave all of us soon. Been difficult for most of the people I know.

Happy, I think more than one in the American Standard "Champion" line is one I mentioned before. Cleans better and is clog free. Check out their items at Home Depot.
American Standard VorMax.
It does both—it’s clog-free and self-cleaning, but it doesn't use any of those annoying cleaning cartridges or batteries! It uses a unique "Jetted Scrub" design that shoots a powerful high-pressure wave of water around the bowl to scrub it clean with every flush. It also has a special slick glaze so nothing sticks, and a rim design that completely eliminates spots where grime can hide.
The entire American Standard Champion toilet lineup—including the Champion 4, Champion PRO, and standard Champion series—is famous for its ability to flush a bucket of golf balls in a single flush. This unmatched clearing power is driven by the industry's largest 4-inch piston-action accelerator flush valve and an extra-wide 2-3/8 inch fully glazed trapway. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Regarding self-cleaning, while no toilet in the Champion lineup is completely hands-free "self-cleaning" (as they do not feature automated cleaning cycles or built-in chemical dispensing tanks), every model comes equipped with advanced continuous self-maintenance technologies
---------------------------------------------------------
I am done with the MI house toilet. My high-end toilets are more trouble than something basic. I'm also going to get a new Champion -- something simple and easy to work on, if needed.
I know one or more of the American Standard toilets can flush down a bucket of golf balls. While I am sure that is quite an accomplishment, I feel, if I have a guest over who needs to deposits that much in my toilet, best they just go directly to the emergency room and deal with their medical problem. AND, there should be no further visits until that happens!!! Just Saying. ROTFLOL.

Ladies I lied, the sofa and two chairs are Century, but all three pieces PLUS the 3 plaid pillows were actually $350. Not sure why their condition was listed as just Good. I have sleep tested them in my Library and they work well. LOL. These are serious upholstered pieces, not lightweight -- they are planted on the ground. Yeah for glides. 2 side tables and the room is done. Now that my L sofa is gone I can get to the left bookcase I can finish unpacking & placing my books on the last row of shelves. Yeah progress.

Here in MI I think I can transplant my hydrangeas this month. I whispered it cause I think they are nervous that my "hands of a killer" will be coming for them. I'm telling them I'll have someone else do the planting. Printesa how do I know what kind I have? Have about 18 plants, 4-5' H, big leaves & 5-6" pink flower heads. Sun, no Sun? I have a lot of places for them. Says I can divided now. They will love having room to spread out their branches where they can really bloom in the Spring. Are Siberian Iris good they bloom twice?

So Printesa, another milestone, cake and a bit of song and here you are celebrating another birthday. Glad you celebration was close to home. Did you make your own cake??
Yesterday, I officially learned that I am OLD and particular, when I heard my friend's daughter say, "here let me push your A S S up into my vehicle." and then she did literally or there was no getting up and into it. Ugh. I only live and pray I never hear those words again from anyone. Why don't younger people like luxury vehicles? Oh no, they have to drive something that rattles their brains while on the road. I looked 6 yr. old next to this monster car/thing. The next thing I knew was that I was tossed into the front seat like a sausage. I may never have lunch with her again until her brain cells calm down.
tiffany, your friend's daughter sounds like a joyful person:)) I would never do that or say that and I worked with old people and by old I mean 90 and above. My mom had a foster-care home for the elderly and most of them had Alzheimer or in wheelchair. I was 20 when I was working and helping with that and always careful and gentle with them, I think some of the young ones don't think that they will get to that age, if lucky, and they wouldn't want to be treated badly.
I did make a cake, a light sponge cake with lemon and vanilla, filled with a cream made out of lemon custard, mascarpone cheese and heavy cream and lemon juice. I have it in the fridge. I will see if I can decorate it a bit since the cream is a bit soft. Today we will get together and have some
For the hydrangeas, do you know what the blooms look like? If they are those round classical looking one, those bloom on old wood. If you do a search for hydrangeas that bloom on old wood, they give a list. Most of them these days bloom on new wood so they can be pruned, but many old ones are on old wood. Pretty much all of them want sun to bloom, or at least part sun. The mountain hydrangea wants afternoon shade, but I don't think you have that one..though I know someone in SC who has the Tuff Stuff hydrangea and she has it in full sun.. See if you can find out what hydrangeas you have..I would put them somewhere where they get enough sun

I forgot the irises..the Siberian ones do not rebloom, but they are beautiful. The bearded irises rebloon, but not that much. I have loads of them and I can't really say that they re-bloom much..they bloom for a good amount of time. All of them need sun. Let me know when you are planting..the Siberian ones need to have the crown from where the roots come under the ground 1-2 inches,The bearded irises need to have the crown uncovered..just the roots in the ground
