TV mount above fireplace

Do TV's ever get damaged from being mounted above a fireplace? We're thinking of doing this above a fireplace with a gas insert that puts out a terrific amount of heat and are concerned that the TV might be damaged by the heat. Would you do it or have you?

I wouldn't do it. Electricals and heat are not a good idea, and anyway tvs above a fireplace are not good for your neck.

TVs above fireplaces are a design faux pas. I wouldn't do it.

The only option for our tv is above the fireplace. It looks great. It's been there 10 years and there has not been any problems with our tv. We can watch tv and enjoy the fireplace at the same time.
