I would start by adding a round area rug and a new light fixture.

It's less the color than the style, your kitchen has been updated so it's time to rid yourself of country diner look. I'd stick with the round, but make it 60" and get upholstered chairs for a more sophisticated look. Roman shades or maybe shutters and a new overhead fixture. I get the utility of a fan and there are lots out there that are great looking. Can you move the clothesline or get drying racks? Your view is really lovely.

I would get a new wrought iron and glass table with some lower back upholstered chairs and as for windows I love roman shades toppers are very yesterday, I would not use a rug because I don't like them in traffic areas and a new light fixture and nix the fan. I would love to see some red chairs and then when choosing fabric for the shades get something with a red stripe or just a touch of red .

Such great ideas. I really lean towards practicality as my husband works outside ,brings in the dirt and I'm really tired of cleaning this big house. I've found area rugs difficult because of chair movement and the daily floor cleaning.. I definetly want a new light fixture. I like the oval table to get around and out to the back yard. We use the patio door all the time. I can't move that 100" clothesline and I know it is an eyesore in a picture. We don't even notice it. We live in the country and use the line regularly. I looked at glass tables and thought they would be a pain to keep clean especially with grandchildren. We just ordered open weave shades to pull up and out of the way. Would a fixed roman topper look less outdated? I just need something to even out the top of the door and windows.Thanks for all of your suggestions-gives me lots to think about.

If you could find a reclaimed wood round table, I think it would suit both your kitchen's modern feel, but also a country home. Not sure what your weave shade looks like? I'm sure if will feel more modern. For your light fixture, you may want to consider a darker metal, so as to compliment your hardware in the kitchen.

love the light fixture. We have to put up something with a chain as there is no switch for that light and no way to put one in(darn)

I didn't even know they had those types. You can't have an electrician put one in or would it be too expensive?

I was one sheet of drywall too late in requesting a wall switch when the renovations were happening. I will check with an electrician but my husband said no, He likes to do everything by himself

Paint....table and chairs...black on table....chairs in your favorite color...window toppers in a black and what ever the accent color is...maybe in a large stripe or fun large scale check.
Make seat cushions in same fabric and carry the accent color into the kitchen with a tray standing up at backsplash.

Yes there is a way to have a light....remove the fan. A light on while the fan is on makes the lighting do strange things to people's sight.

WE ordered white open weave blinds for the 2 side windows. They are like a mesh screen that you can see through from the inside but they keep the sun out and can be pulled to the top for "the view". I love romans but felt they would block out the light. However. I was wondering if I could put a permanent roman topper inside the window in front of the blind and a matching box pleat or roman topper above the patio. I've been making roman blinds for 10 years so no problem there.
Another option I considered was just a wood/cloth valance above the door and inside windows which leaves a monochromatic room. I do like colour though

For liking color, you have a very neutral room right now. You could have a lot of fun with some unexpected chairs;

I find keeping it neutral allows me to accent seasonally. The basics are getting done -white backsplash next week and open weave blinds on windows. Maybe a roman topper inside the windows at the top but stuck with what to do with the door.Could I put white trim across the top and leave it or should I add a similar roman topper under the white trim.

I was checking for a distressed table set and came across a seafoam green which I might be daring enough to do.(newer style with straight back chairs) I think it would go with all the colours in my kitchen/dining area. It might not be practical though.

Round pedestal table, possibly black, and a new lighting fixture. And whatever style of table/chairs you like. My first impression is that your kitchen looks like cottage style. No offense about removing the fan, we have a ceiling fan above our table and it's like the last thing on our to do list. Plus I like using it. Sometimes I wonder if we'll just replace it with another nicer fan.

Here are several dining set suggestions; (the first set also is sold in an off white) the first two offered at JC Penney, the third from Gardiners.com (but it is a special order item). Lose the vertical shades and get some BLACKOUT drapes if you need light control or just want privacy, you can purchase them from just about anywhere that sells drapes in a wide variety of colors (and patterns) and place them along ALL THREE windows for a unified look.....I am not being mean, but even if you leave the two side drapes open it will still look better than two bare windows with a vertical blind.

You might also want to think about either getting a little more up to date ceiling fan or a nice light fixture over the table and perhaps an area rug.....(See the third picture I posted above) You do not have to spend a ton of money to make a big impact.... :-)

Change the kitchen handles/knobs. Paint or change the fan to have the same color or style that the knobs. Place a colourful centerpiece on the table. Place a tall plant with a nice pot near the windows. Use seat cushions that check again, in color or style with the knobs and fan.
You don't have to use only one color, you could choose one color in different tones, or maybe two bright and different colors.
These changes are not expensive, are easy to implement and the look would be more vivid.

Glad you painted the trim white! I have your wall color in my master with Silvermist (SW) and in my sunroom with Lemongrass (SW). I'm thinking sea foam might work. If I had a choice now, I would get comfy upholstered chairs around my table to keep people lounging and talking after dinner.

Upholstered dining set counter height will soften the area. Valance son the window would dress it up. Depending on your preference to color, they should be lined in a heavy fabric.

I love the window shades but should have ordered the valance. Will it look ok to put a fabric valance inside the window frame to cover the roller top. What can I use for a valance above the patio door.

I don't think you need a large valance if you just wish to cover the roller top. Just do what you need to, to cover the unattractive roller. I have even hot glued trim to do this!
