I would paint it all out. I think your place looks great! you could go brighter on the door so your focus is on it or something like your shutters to have it blend.

I think the stone work actually makes the house looks busy rather than changing the front door, if the stone can be replaced with matching red bricks it would look 100x better.

The "typical" 3'-0" door with sidelites are tired and outdated. Create a gental gable with stronger columns that will identify the entry, enlarge your Door to a 48" or even larger with glass accents in it.
At the very least, go to a 48" door to envite your guests in.

Agree with Jamie about stone work. How about painting the bricks white?

HI - Wonderful house- but it's an odd feature of that stone being put with the brick. Maybe the country style stone can be covered in a board and batton wood siding.Or just masonary paint the stone the color of the upper siding or a shade darker. For the front door I would put in a nice modern Mahogany Door and sides with a beautiful leaded glass insert. And get a good quality entrance hardware set. If you put in a bigger door then you won't need the sides. Make it stately and grand because the house is.

I really like the idea of the extra wide door, with a gable above, so we can see exactly where the entrance is as we approach the house. I wouldn't paint or cover or replace the stone. You have a beautiful house.

I like the stone, I would paint the door and side lights something other than a neutral and paint the shutters the same color. I don't think it's busy... It just needs some color in my opinion?

Hi there. I would cover the brick columns with wood, paint the right side of the house (the brick part) the same shade as your siding on the top and paint the door sidlight the same color as the shutters. I can't tell what color the front door is? The brick and stone is too much together. There needs to be an emphasis on one or the other.

I think your stonework is nice. The brick seems out of place. I would paint the brick the same color as the siding up top on the gable so it fades away from your eye. I think you should go with a slightly contemporary door and be a bright, very dark teal. The teal color would draw your eye in. Take the shutters off, they really date the house. You know there are two parts to a window frame--the outside trim and there's a smaller inside trim piece,,, i would paint all the inner parts of your windows teal and paint the large plate glass window frame teal. Mid-Century modern houses are so "in" right now, I would push it towards a little contemporary. Love the woodsy feel of the landscaping.

does the brick wrap the house? while i am not a huge fan of painting brick sometimes it is the right thing to do. I agree with patparrott that if you paint the brick match it to the siding. I think wrapping the columns in wood would also be a good way to modernize the front porch. I would ditch the sidelights on the door and go with an oversized modern door. Since your porch is so large the furniture you use is key and lighting especially needs to be addressed. I don't mind the shutters..i would do that last if at all. but the wood on the porch has to go.

HI - I don't know why people are so against painting brick or stucco - if it needs to be . If you get a good quality masonary paint you will never have a problem.We painted our stucco several years ago and it stll looks good today. No peelling or anything and the front of the house faces south and we have the four seasons of change.
