For the entry, I would add a small porch with either Tuscan columns or paired 4x4 posts with a latice panel in between. As for the floor plan, suggestions are a bit tough without dimensions and the kitchen cabinets shown, but if you could move the right door from the living room to the kitchen over to the right, and close up the left door from the living room and open a new one from the living room to the dining room on the right side of the fireplace, this should help. It might be nice to make the big living room window into a bay window. Try classic green and white for the exterior.

Is there anyway to open the wall that separates the stairs going up to the second floor fron the stairs going down to the basement? If there is, opening this area will create a way to get to the kitchen with out going through the livingroom.

The hall between the Living room, dining and kitchen appears really tight compared to the size of the rooms. Also there is a full size bath that has a lot of room too. Any chance of increasing the sixe of the hallway?? Maybe just keep the bath a powder room rather than a full size bath. Hard to tell the measurements etc....

HI - TOO bad you don't want to change too much because your house is perfect to be a center hall plan but that would involve putting in a new front door and move or replace a window or two and a couple of walls . So I think you should fill in the doorway across from the bathroom and then open up the rest of the wall to the kitchen - then the now livingroom will be the familyroom and the dining/family will be the dining/livingroom instead. Put some defining trim around the entrance and a brite color on the door. You could paint the main of the house a stronger yellow and paint the shutters a semi - gloss Charcoal Black .To me what you have for your front main entrance - should be the service entrance if this was made a center hall main floor. Making those changes would make this house function much better. A little more would do alot for curb appeal .

Hi amanda75, not sure how your fireplace will work, but if it is centered in the living room it has potential to be opened up on both sides to create a more free flowing path and connect with the dining / family room. The kitchn walls also be opened to the living room, and you could have space for a walk in pantry and storage where the old hallway used to be.
