I have this basically un-used family room in my home, and I intend to replace the ratty couch with a newer sleek, linen colored one. I also have a large dark brown leather recliner and dark brown upright piano to fill out this space. The current set up is temporary, but I painted the walls this gold color based on the recommendation from Sherwin Williams to highlight the gold/tone down the red in the fireplace. I want to replace the mantle with a distressed wood one that goes across the whole width and paint the trim something similar to Benjamin Moore's white dove. My dilemma is what to do with the shelving units on either side of the fireplace. I am up for painting them a lighter color, distressing them, etc, but I have a hard time imagining exactly how it would look. I DO NOT want to change the brick, so what will make the room feel comfy cozy without having so many contrasting wood tones? Thanks!
