Walk-thru between island and sink is 36". This was the code minimum. Walk-thru between island and buffet counter is approx 40". Walk-thru between island and cooktop is 36". Space has been functional/comfortable for cooking as well as entertaining.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!....for posting the dimensions of your island including the dimensions between each workspace. I am building a new house. We met with the kitchen designer today (not too thrilled with them, but that's another story.) He was going to put an 18 inch wide/narrow island in our 13 foot wide kitchen. I mentioned moving the island as you have it - closer to one area like the sink so I could have at least a 24 inch wide island. He didn't like that idea. We are probably getting our cabinets somewhere else! :)

Thank you!!! :). I'm so glad my posting was helpful! Our contractor also had concerns about our island and having an adequate pass-thru area. We entertain often and have young children, so I was pretty persistent about a 24" wide island (to accommodate two 12" dinner plates across from each other). Although it can get tight if we're cooking and have more than 6 adults standing around the island, I've never regretted the footprint of our island. Go with what works for your lifestyle. :). In case this helps: width of our kitchen is 12' 6". Countertop are 25" deep x 36" high. Base cabinets are 24" deep x 35" high. Hanging cabinets are 12" deep (with 18" clearance from countertop). Good luck with your kitchen design! I'm sure it will be beautiful! Just remember the kitchen is often the most daunting project, but also the most rewarding!! ;)

Wow! Thanks for the other dimensions! Our kitchen is 12' 8" wide, so this helps me picture what it will look like. Your kitchen is beautiful! House will be finished in October. I will post a picture when it is complete! Your help is invaluable!!!
