Counter top thickness

Hello - we are designing a classic white kitchen and love the look of the thicker counter top. Is 2" the appropriate thickness? We don't want to go overboard - it is not a particularly large space so we don't want the counters to dominate, but do love the look of a more substantial counter.

I just did a search for "think counters" and it seems like 2" would be pretty moderate, so it doesn't sound like it would be too overwhelming. http://www.houzz.com/thick-counter

Granite & marble width is typically measured in cm. 3 cm is standard (1.25 inches) and you can get 5 cm for a thicker look. To avoid the expense of the thick tops, get a laminated edge. They basically glue a thin strip of stone to the edge so that it looks thicker, but make sure you have a good fabricator do this or it will be too obvious. It has to be matched well.
