Why?

I don't like that it looks like the addition people make to the balcony on their condominiums... where they window it off and put a dining room in it. Just looks unnecessarily dislocated and forced.

On the contrary, I think it looks much like a great transition zone.... Not quite outside, but not quite inside either. I don't think it looks forced at all. It's a beautiful hybrid blend.

Simmons Estate Homes, you have done a beautiful job and are very gracious to address someone (Shaun Hackett) who does not use this site in the manner in which it is to be used. Thank you for sharing your work. I would encourage you, Shaun, to not comment on things you do not like in the question portion of this site. This is not helpful for anyone.

Tate - I wanted to understand the mentality of the choice. Definitely a relevant question. Design opinions and choices help other people to understand possible choices for their own homes. This site is not just for praise and applause.

Smart design. Texas sun can be brutal coming through the French doors. The porch allows the light and openness without the heat and glare.

This does not work for every area but it is beautiful and works for me in Louisiana where Mosquitos will move you indoors before the heat and humidity lol!
Are they glass panels? Can a screen material be substituted? Information on purchasing materials used on this project?

Love this idea! I am designing a custom home (mountain modern/contemporary) in British Columbia and have an outdoor area planned (26'x16') but have been struggling with finding doors that open from the interior dining area of the home to the outdoor living space. This solution is brilliant! Although Fernie, BC doesn't have the same sun/heat issues as Texas, the summer blaze can be quite intense depending on the positioning of the porch area, and the bugs from the forest can quickly ruin any enjoyment of the outdoor area. With this solution the doors to the interior of the home can remain open and the screens permit the feeling of being outside - not to mention allow excellent airflow! A wonderful job/solution.
