Thank you for your inquiry! This cabinet was designed with retractable doors that the homeowner keeps open most of the time, especially when she is cooking. The microwave has plenty of space to vent as long as the large pantry doors are open. When shut, they completely close off this little work space. It turned out to be a great area for her kids and she refers to it as the "breakfast bar."

This is fantastic. What are the dimensions of the area that holds this 'breakfast bar'?

Thank you for your inquiry! The cabinet with the breakfast bar and retractable doors is a total of 36" wide. You will have to subtract you cabinetry rail width and allowance dimension for retracting doors to get your final interior width. Every cabinetry manufacturer will be slightly different.
