Thank you for your comment. As we have addressed earlier, this family has grown children and the location of the knife block is not an issue for them. As was mentioned in earlier posts, there are child safety locks on the market that could easily work for this cabinet. The knife block is an accessory available only installed into this cabinet--not by itself.

You put a lock on the wall for the garbage disposal? Does the lock help to save you from teaching and disciplining your children? What a time saver. And here I've been parenting the old way all this time. Good idea.

Disciplining children? I haven't any idea what you are talking about. My comment was directly referencing this brilliant design solution. When I mentioned lock, it was just a simple analogy. In other words, some sort of "open & close" mechanism not near this great knife storage solution. Grown children, small children & the elderly (i.e., Alzheimer's) - a special locking mechanism as simple or complicated as one wants would help this design solution fit into more homes with different lifestyles. That's all - nothing more.

first off, when a child wants something and they are determined to get it, some kids will do anything to get what they want. nothing replaces keeping a close eye and ear on your child.... i wouldn't want to rely on my memory to lock a cupboard! That said, I wouldn't recommend putting things like knives in a lower cupboard where it's visible to children. the people who did this don't have small children. however, does this mean they never have company with small children?! it is definitely something to consider if you have children at your house ever... this knife storage idea could be used in a counter top height cupboard. in my humble opinion it's a good idea, wrong location. :-)
