Blue is a cool color, so I'm not sure you're going the right direction to to achieve warmth. As a general rule, furniture and fabrics are chosen first and paint last, as it can be custom blended to work with the fabrics, which cannot be adjusted. You can keep the gray sofa and add color and warmth with accessories, a new arm chair and more contemporary tables, lamps and rug to work better with the sofa style.

I agree about choosing the furniture first ....but the new furniture will come with us to another house in a year, so it will be a neutral color, and I didn't want another neutral colored room, so picked a color that worked with the blue tone in the gray....but was still a happy color. But am having a dickens of a time trying to figure out the right color scheme to make this work.

If you're moving in a year, I wouldn't do anything but accessorize with inexpensive items you won't die over when you toss them out at the new house. I wouldn't ever buy furniture before moving in and analyzing the space to see what it can accommodate and learning how you will live in the rooms. Just worked with a Houzzer who went out and bought sofas and tables that don't work in her space. She's planning on having a wall built to make adequate space for the oversized sofa. Have patience and wait - you won't regret it. If you have a reason to need new items now for a special occasion, store yours and rent replacements short term.

I definitely recommend getting a lighter colored couch, either a white or beige. This will help the blue paint be the focal point of the room instead of it getting lost with other color choices on furniture. I would get drapes to match the couch, maybe even a soft pattern with a contrast color for the blue walls-- maybe a pale yellow pattern. As for the rug, you may want to pick something light since your floors are so dark.

I agree with Ashley. I'd go lighter on the couch if you're stuck on the blue. However, it's probably less expensive for you to change the paint colour than the couch. Decoenthusiaste is also right! Choosing your paint colour after your furniture is always the best way to work since there are thousands of paint colours to choose from and probably just a handful of fabrics for the couch you love. In working with what you have, I would swap the armchair for something in an off white and coordinate matching throw pillows for the sofa. Go with a larger rug also in a lighter, cleaner colour and maybe throw some artwork with white frames on the blue wall. Have fun!

Hi---you mentioned the words, 'warmth and cheer' and I think the blue walls are completely opposite of what you intended. I suggest painting all the walls SW's Accessible Beige, keeping the sectional for now and dressing it up with pillows, switching the rug to something with warm gold hues, removing the chair and adding 2 matching chairs, and changing out the tables to something a bit more sophisticated. Tailored, solid colored panels for windows. Mercury glass for accessories and such. Hope this is helpful. Good Luck!

Thank you! You spoke, I listened. See attached photo.....white couches, white rug and a art decor that pulls in all colors. I like it, but I just think the pieces are too big for the space. The furniture store is a friend, so I have the opportunity to return it for smaller set ( 90 inch couch vs 100), its a little darker beige but still light.

You are right - it is too crowded. I would eliminate the love seat and put the large chair opposite the sofa on an angle. The sofa size is up to you. Sofa/love seat combos are very limiting when designing a room since they can never face each other and look good. Better 2 chairs than a love seat.

Try moving the furniture away from the walls..move it more into the center of the room so seating is closer together ..possibly arranged around but overlapping onto the rug

Too big and too much...replace the big chair with an accent wood framed chair and replace the ottoman with a cocktail. bring in a bigger rug.
