Having just bought a new 70" TV, it's time to finalize a decision on what to do after removing the current fireplace and whether to have a direct vent fireplace installed along with cabinets for my entertainment center.

I have already decided to have cabinets put in for a window seat in the bay window in the living room and, having purchased a new fridge a few months ago, will be having the kitchen cabinets redone to accommodate the bigger fridge as well. So it will be a good time to get all the cabinets done at once.

The real dilemma I have is whether I should try to keep a fireplace in the design. It's certainly not a necessity and won't be used nearly as much as the TV I'm removing the fireplace to make room for. But it would be a nice feature to have and could find good use in cold Utah winters.

The original direction I was leaning towards was installing a linear fireplace with a mantel low enough to allow the TV to fit comfortably on the wall above it. As it is now, the TV is too high and my new TV wouldn't fit at all above the current fireplace. But after considering it more, I don't think I could possibly get the mantel low enough for the 70" TV model I got to make it worth doing.

I have drawn up a potential layout, where the fireplace would go in the right corner of the room with the TV on the left center portion of the wall. The model fireplace I'm looking at is the Montigo H34DF ( http://www.montigo.com/index.php?page=show-product&c=residential_single%20sided_traditional_flush%20face&series=H%20Series ) which would allow for a rock surround, which I prefer. It's also small enough I can fit it in the corner, leaving enough space for the TV and cabinets on the wall.

So my question is will this design work? I know 45" isn't a lot of width for a fireplace, but it seems doable with this model being smaller. Is it too cramped though? Am I trying to squeeze too much onto this 124" wall? Are there suggestions where I could modify the design for the better? Or should I just forget about the fireplace and stick with just the entertainment center on the wall?

Being a software engineer, I trust my math and visualizations of how this would come together, but I don't necessarily trust my design sense. Your thoughts, suggestions and insights are much appreciated! Thanks.
