Ideas for rugs, backsplash and paint!

We installed new hardwood floors and we need to buy some area rugs. The room with the two chairs is heavily trafficked as the deck door is our primary entrance so we need a rug that is durable. We also need a runner in the hallway to the living room from the room with the two chairs. A new kitchen table rug is needed too. Pay no attention to the temporary one that is in place! We plan on a mosaic subway tile backsplash to compliment the new Pietra Cardosa countertops. Color ideas for tile? Painting will be done to bring the rooms together. Color ideas for paint?

First, your home, new floors, & your dog are all beautiful! I actually love the yellow with blue trim in the living and dining areas. If you enjoy it, I would keep it that way. Bring a complimentary yellow into the kitchen to tie it in, along with adding a bamboo backsplash, see samples below.

As for area rugs. I don't know what colors you prefer, but the samples below are from Hayneedle.com and RugsaMillion.com. Both sites have a wide selection of durable area rugs and runners to choose from.

Lovely spaces!
Some very practical -and also beautiful- area rugs would be Kilim, Ikat & Bokhara.
If they are authentic, handmade and %100 wool, they will last a lifetime. Perfect for high traffic areas and children.
The Kilims especially, because they are a flatweave.
