Neutrals and Boho can't be more opposite. Bohemian, by it's nature, is an infusion of bold colors and an anachronism in style and placement. I think I understand what you may be after though.

Your images are pretty yellow and a bit fuzzy. Putting lights on behind the camera would help with that.

Ok a few questions:

1. The tv console...is that a fireplace?
2. Is it possible you can draw and rough sketch of the room marking doorways and windows along with the dimensions of the room?
3. Can you take a picture of the missing portion of the room.

Neutrals are nice, I don't see any problem with that. Add a couple of patterned pillows, something subtle in colors. Then, bit by bit, bring in interesting and eclectic objects, family photos (well framed). It will be easier to adjust these touches until you find the right feel. Easier than getting a new couch.

Looks good so far. You can get a coffee table with a glass top. Add a few pops of color with throw pillows and accessories.

sophisticated and formal are not usually applied to a room with a big tv.

Dump the window blinds, consider funky drapes and some ethnic throw pillows.

I would get rid of the T.V for sure and the cabinet it sits on maybe add a wall hung firepllace and as for neutral it does not have to be boring but you do need to add some color even if very soft blues and greens and a coffeetable would be more conducive to sitting and visiting and for sure some drapes as opposed to blinds to maybe in a faux silk like these and then some soft blue pillows or a throw and fresh flowers and some good sized lamps and I would paint the wall behind the paintings a very soft blue so that art work shows off a bit it also could be hung a bit lower

The TV has to stay says the husband (I posted the original thread from his account if you're confused). But this is where we hang out on weeknights to watch tv. It's really more of a family room than living room since our house is a small ranch.

We are not looking to spend a lot of money so I can't really get rid of the TV stand either and yes that's an electronic fireplace. I don't want it to be too formal as that won't fit the theme of the house. Just updated.

As for boho I know it's very colorful and I wasn't looking for a completely boho style just a few touches. Thanks for the suggestions.

I'm just going crazy because I think I don't know what I want. Not a fan of blues or greens either. I will try to post better pictures tonight. The wall with the picture goes into my dining room area which we currently have an old couch in waiting to donate it.

Not seeing enough of the room to help you much. I do think I'd remove the sofa from under the window, but need to see the other walls to determine the best layout. Somehow it looks like you have a second sofa with its back to the chaise sofa? Can't conceive of how the room is presently laid out or what the traffic flow is.

photo reminded me how I'd buy a cheap round 'decorator table' and place fabric, etc. over it, with some lively color/pattern for example --- they sell plenty of these kind of poufy things...

Hi there! This is my first time commenting on here, how exciting! I love your new furniture and rug, and I know what you mean about wanting the space to be "formal" but cozy and livable. It's hard to tell from the pictures the layout of the room. Could you move the fireplace and TV to the wall where your chair is? I would get rid of the blinds and hang long drapes. Blinds to me are anti cozy and drapes will instantly soften the room even more! I would look for a wooden coffee table, reclaimed wood or just softer colored. Move the chair to face into the coffee table and couch so it creates a natural conversation area. Maybe look for another cozy chair to add to the mix. Add some pillows in neutrals and a soft color you like. Floor lamp in the corner, lamp on the side table, flowers and candles on the coffee table. The wall where your TV is now would be a nice spot for a statement piece, big art or photos, a console or bookshelf.

Get rid of all the vases with sticks in them. Yes, all of them should go.

Why do you have a sofa with it's back to the room?

Square up the TV and center it on the wall. Has it been naughty and must sit in the corner?

Try the long piece of art in the hall and bring that more colorful piece into the living room. Make your FP the focal point at the end of the room with the colorful art above it. This is what people will see when they enter. Add a pair of small scale swivel chairs flanking the FP with the sofa facing the FP for one seating group. Put a sofa table behind it and get a drum chandy to hang 32" above the dining table. At the TV end, add one or two small club chairs and a table and lamp for a viewing corner. The fabric pattern on these additional chairs can up your boho quotient. Put the TV on a swivel base atop a credenza. Solid drapes in one of the fabric colors over bamboo shades will increase the look you're after.

Here is a photo of a room that has a stronger boho influence than my previous post's photo. I hope the Salvation Army took your love seat...I think it was confusing some of us. ;)

since u have a curtain on one window u definitely need it on the other. I can't say i like the ones in dining, but they do add color. so u can use same ones if u can for the living room.
one thing though, the rod should be much higher (almost under the ceiling)
also i would move the second side table to the other side of the sofa
And u need a bigger TV stand

Thank you for the additional images. There are several things I can suggest.

The first thing is the room feels squatty. Do bring the curtains higher. Also add a tall armoire to house the TV and close it off from sight when not in use. You can always find one in your local buy/sell ads.

This is what I am seeing.

You have selected the most traditional seating in an unusual neutral fabric. Your color style is neutral. You know about adding texture and pattern. You have done a great job so far and just need to tie it all together. I think what your aiming for is called eclectic.

In the first image below there is a great Asian styled armoire. It works to ground the room due to the size and it being the only large object of color. The armoire is simply decorated with Large items. The color is subtly brought through the room with the throw and picture and tiny vase on the end table. The furniture and window treatment are very traditional yet everything else is a bit "unexpected". The tables are modern the armoire is very antiqueish looking and the horse painting is not something you would think would work. This is as close to boho neutral as it comes.

In the second image there is also a great old looking armoire. Notice the coffee table looks like a modern reclaimed wood one. The image over the mantel is popped there without a frame. The lamps appear to be mid century spanish. And the ornate vanity is ..well ornate.

Ok 3rd image....you get the idea.

4th image is an armoire in my local buy/sell ads for $ 200.00 It's from the late 1800's. It does not take buckets of money to get your style together it just takes some understanding of what you want.

Oh and put the fireplace someplace unexpected such as the hallway if there is room.

Nice sofa...need a cocktail table and two accent chairs. do not need the ottoman. need window treatments and get rid of the blinds. color on the walls and accessories!

The thing is that I need to keep the TV stand and blinds. I don't want to spend a lot of money so I really need to work with what I have already. And this stuff is only about 3 years old.

Also, those end tables aren't usually placed there either. The whole living room is kind of a mess lol. I can pick things out that I like I just never know if it will look good or go together. It's frustrating and it shouldn't be because I love decorating.

I know that I definitely need drapes, coffee table and photos for the wall. My living room currently has high hat lights so i don't need a fixture. I'm really not into traditional looking furniture but I loved these couches. My house is very much contemporary. I see all different things being done in the design world but just can't figure it out!

If you know of a remnant fabric place go buy one and place over decorator table. Unless for color you choose curtains.... semi-sheers?

Hmm...How about a folding screen behind the console. It would give you the height and span that corner.
