I think swapping out the mirror would help. The existing one is pretty traditional and your inspiration photo is quite modern.

according to your insperation photo......paint the room gray, and the vanity black get a simple mirror with a silver frame. and when you hang the are over the toilet center it to the toilet not the wall. or i would put some floating shelves there.

I agree with flair lighting. I can't believe the difference in changing out the colors in our bathroom. The floating shelves purchased inexpensively from Target were a welcome change from hanging a picture over the toilet. Added some black/silver accessories..wow! What a difference. I think you can achieve this without painting the vanity. Found a beveled mirror from Overstock and changing the vanity was no longer an issue. I just changed the knobs on the drawers. Looks like you have satin nickel or pewter faucets. I would stay with that. a beveled glass or pewter framed mirror, satin nickel knobs, and not to chrome looking sliver. I would stay in keeping with your bathroom faucets. My faucets are chrome and hubby said go chrome, so I did, Love it. If I had brushed nickel. would just coordinate with the same.

Perhaps you could install a white-painted chair rail around the room and have it located about an inch below the bottom edge of the mirror frame. Then, paint the lower wall two or three shades darker than the original wall color and keep the original shade above the chair rail. On my computer, the walls appear to be a rosy beige that is very pretty. I do believe some wall art and towels in a complementary color, such as sage (if rosy beige is the wall color), could help bring some life and brightness to this space. If you do add the chair rail, add white-painted crown molding around the room to complete the look.

no,,,don't comment on something that's 4 years old. if someone is having the exact same problem, which doesn't happen often, then they will ask for help on a new post. your color suggestions are for one problem. plus, you're reviving these old posts, they get pushed to the top of the help forum, and everyone on them gets notifications. there are plenty of new problems if you want to help. no need to comment on something that they've already taken care of. that's just ridiculous. look at the dates and get something recent!
