is this ur Dining room? the bamboo shades dont look bad, but makes the room look less formal and elegant... so really depends on the function of this room.

Thanks everyone. It's a living room and dining room, neither if which are super formal bc were a young family. Still so undecided. The shades don't rise much more than what is shown. Don't want it to look dark and dowdy. But, don't want people peering in during dinner parties. Any other thoughts??

Here's a night pic with them all of the way down, and without. Note the two windows to the side of the fireplace will not have shades either way (they don't make them that small) does that make a difference to your opinions? Thanks again!!!!

You can leave the fireplace windows naked and put shades on the rest. What about Silhouette shades or something with a smaller profile? Those windows are so pretty, and the bamboo shades do clunk them up a bit.

Shade help- okay I have hunter Douglas coming to help me next week. I like silhouettes. Any other HD shades you recommend for the space?

I wanted the bamboo to work bc they were dirt cheap, but alas, I'm just not feeling it.

cscriv2 the chandelier was the original owners, which I moved from the kitchen to dining room because I wanted it to have a more relaxed feel. So not sure the brand!

It all depends on how much privacy you are looking for. keep in mind that dark shades (or drapes) will also make the room "darker". You need to decide how much natural light and privacy you want the room to have. I have done both over the years and personally prefer a much lighter look for rooms that we frequently use.

I like the bamboo. It looks really nice. But if you are looking to let as much light in, would you consider using cellular shades? They won't hang down as far, are cordless, and can be trimmed to fit. I found some at lowes. I have yet to try it. I did get the woven wood shades there and they drive me crazy cause they are in a north facing room and they hang down 18". They're blocking all of the light.

I like the dining room without the shades but I think a big problem is the color..too much of a contrast with the white windows. I know you can get bamboo shades in white.(Penneys). I'm sure there are other light choices of woven shades.

Keep them. The bamboo adds some texture and it just looks more complete overall.

No bamboo shades...choose a better fabric and design for window treatments.

Your windows are nice small size so you should not cover them with 2 shades. Just bamboo shades are enough, don't need drapes added to them cially next to the fireplace. its getting too crowded. minimum look is needed here. you could have added if possible fabric trim on bamboo shades. but they r good without it also.
